The engineer who decided to map every patient in America
Todd Gottula co-founded Clarify Health in 2015 with a chemical engineer's instinct: if you can model a refinery's 10,000 variables in real time, you can probably map a nation's patient journeys too. A decade later, that instinct is producing 18 billion AI predictions a year.
Before Clarify, Gottula spent 13 years at Advent Software - the back-office engine behind much of global asset management - climbing from Director of Development to EVP and CTO as the company scaled to serve customers across 60 countries managing over $18 trillion in assets. When SS&C Technologies acquired Advent for $2.7 billion in 2015, Gottula didn't cash out and disappear. He looked sideways at a different broken system and saw the same problem: too much data, not enough intelligence connecting it to decisions.
Healthcare was that system. Where Advent had untangled the complexity of global financial portfolios, Clarify Health would untangle patient journeys - the intricate web of referrals, procedures, payers, and providers that determines the cost and quality of care in America. The founding thesis was blunt: "We founded Clarify because we wanted healthcare organizations and patients to benefit from the big data efficiencies of the banking and consumer industries."
Clarify's Atlas platform now maps over 300 million patient journeys. It generates more than 18 billion AI-predicted precision insights. Payers, providers, and accountable care organizations use it to figure out where care is leaking, where costs are inflated, and where patients are most at risk - before the claim is filed, not after.
In June 2023, Clarify launched Clara, a generative AI co-pilot that drops a natural language interface on top of those datasets. Todd's description of what generative AI does for healthcare analytics lands like a thesis: "It's the missing Rosetta Stone - taking an incredibly complex system and decoding it to provide guidance to those either delivering healthcare, supporting frontline care, or allocating the resources to do so." Clara reduces query time by over 90%. That's not an abstraction. That's an analyst getting an answer in 30 seconds instead of an hour.
In 2024, Clarify earned the #1 KLAS ranking in Data Analytics Platforms for Payers. The same year, the company unveiled a bold rebrand with AI-powered predictive provider network analytics. By 2026, Todd had stepped into the CEO role, inheriting a platform built on his own decade-long product vision - with a new leadership team assembled around him. His message on taking the helm was unambiguous: "The work ahead is significant. The opportunity is real. And I am grateful to be in a position to lead it alongside this team."

A chemical engineer's path through process control, fintech infrastructure, and healthcare AI.
California Institute of Technology - B.S. Chemical Engineering. One of the world's most rigorous science programs, producing a systems-thinker comfortable with 10,000-variable models.
Process Control Engineer, Ultramar Diamond Shamrock - Applied engineering discipline to industrial operations. Learned that data without real-time intelligence is just noise.
Director of Development, TenFold - Pivoted into enterprise software development. Established the pattern: take complex operational problems and build software that makes them navigable.
Director to SVP, Advent Software - Scaled from Director of Development to General Manager and SVP of Development, Services, and Support. Oversaw the platform as it grew to serve asset managers across 60 countries.
EVP and CTO, Advent Software - Led development from ideation through revenue generation. Served as the bridge between business strategy and engineering execution as Advent managed infrastructure for $18T+ in global assets. SS&C Technologies acquired Advent for $2.7 billion in 2015.
Co-Founded Clarify Health Solutions - Launched in San Francisco alongside physician Jean Drouin, MD. The founding premise: healthcare needs the same data intelligence that transformed financial services.
$150M Series D - $1.4B Valuation - Clarify closes its largest round, backed by Insight Partners. The company had recorded 100%+ revenue growth in 2021 and served 75+ of the industry's largest organizations.
Launches Clara Generative AI Co-Pilot - Clarify releases the first generative AI interface for healthcare analytics at enterprise scale. Query time drops by over 90%. Todd publicly frames generative AI as healthcare's missing Rosetta Stone.
