A drone traces a transmission line through the hills west of Sydney. A fixed camera watches a wind turbine spin off the coast. A field technician films a rail corridor on a phone. On their own, these are hours of footage nobody has the time to watch. Unleash live exists to close that gap - it takes live video and imagery from almost any camera and runs it through a library of AI models that flag corrosion, cracks, blade faults and equipment wear the moment they appear.
Founded in Sydney in 2016 by Hanno Blankenstein and Jason Grier, the company started from a simple observation: live data from cameras and drones could change how the world inspects and operates its infrastructure. The pair met that year and bonded over using live camera and sensor feeds for event broadcasting. The broadcasting idea grew into something heavier - an enterprise platform for utilities, energy, transport, mining and government.
The core product, Unleash.Cloud, connects any combination of enterprise video - video management systems, IP and CCTV cameras, drones, body cams, mobile phones and robotic cameras - and applies AI analysis in real time. Results feed straight into the dashboards and workflows an operator already uses. The design principle is that customers should not have to become an AI company to get value; they plug in the cameras they have.
That "device agnostic" stance is deliberate. The platform will ingest a DJI or Skydio drone, an iPhone, a GoPro, or a decades-old CCTV feed. It runs in the cloud or on the edge, on-device, for remote sites where the bandwidth isn't - or where data has to stay put for sovereignty reasons.
By 2021 the platform had analyzed more than 30 million minutes of video and reported growth of over 500% since the start of the pandemic. Along the way it picked up an AWS Public Safety competency and, in 2025, two national AI awards. It is not a household name. It doesn't need to be. Its customers are the organisations whose failures make headlines - and whose quiet, working days do not.
The old way
Inspecting critical infrastructure has always meant sending people to hard places - up towers, along power lines, out to offshore turbines, into substations. It is slow, expensive and sometimes dangerous. A single asset walk can eat a day, and the notes that come back are only as sharp as a tired human's eyes.
