Building Cloud at Full Speed

Somewhere in a Fortune 500 war room, a cloud architect just saved five million dollars over five years. The person responsible isn't a household name in tech circles - yet. Vasu Maganti runs Zelar (formerly Zelarsoft) from San Francisco's Pacific Avenue, and he has quietly assembled one of the most credentialed cloud-native operations on the planet without taking a single dollar from a venture capitalist.

The numbers do the talking: 180 engineers. $26.6M in annual revenue. Google Cloud Premier Partner status - the top tier, reached by fewer than 1% of all Google partners globally. Google Cloud Activation Partner of the Year for APAC in 2025. AI Partner All-Star in 2024. ISO 27001:2013 certified. All bootstrapped.

Maganti founded Zelar in June 2018 after years leading BPA Technologies, an ICRA-Moody's and later Nihilent Group subsidiary, where he engineered a 50%+ revenue increase and managed Microsoft and EMC partnerships across global product teams. When he left to start his own firm, he brought that enterprise playbook with him - and combined it with deep technical chops in Kubernetes, GitOps, and cloud security that most consulting firms delegate to junior staff.

Kubernetes may be complex, but it becomes a powerhouse for your production needs with the right tools and processes.

- Vasu Maganti, CEO, Zelar

That philosophy is baked into everything Zelar ships. When a "10 Hottest IoT Startups" company needed faster product deployment, Maganti's team delivered a 40% speed increase via cloud-native infrastructure. When a Google Ventures-backed startup struggled with quality assurance, Zelar rebuilt the strategy and improved quality metrics by over 60%. When a Fortune 500 firm needed to stop hemorrhaging money on AWS, Zelar architected a solution projected to save $5 million over five years.

These aren't consulting platitudes - they are the specific, measurable outcomes that have made Zelar the go-to partner for enterprises that need cloud operations to actually work in production, not just in a proof-of-concept slide deck.

From Services to Software

Most consulting firms stay consultancies. Maganti had other ideas. Zelar has built a suite of proprietary products that encode its hard-won operational expertise into software - turning the company's service playbooks into platforms anyone can use.

Kubernetes Platform
Klusternetes

Self-service Kubernetes platform that provisions fully configured virtual K8s clusters with enterprise-grade multi-tenancy, cost optimization, and access control.

GKE Platform
OpenOps

Production-ready Kubernetes platform built on Google Kubernetes Engine. Encodes Zelar's best practices for GitOps, observability, and security into a deployable package.

AI Operations
Cokpit

AI-powered operations tool designed to bring intelligent automation to cloud operations management - an AIOps layer built by engineers who run production at scale.

Hyderabad to Premier Partner

Vasu Maganti grew up in Hyderabad, studied at Osmania University, and later earned an MBA from Sikkim Manipal University. The trajectory from South India's technology hub to San Francisco's cloud-native scene is one of those career arcs that looks inevitable only in hindsight.

At BPA Technologies, Maganti learned the mechanics of running a global IT services company - partnerships with Microsoft and EMC, operations spanning multiple continents, the kind of enterprise sales cycle that teaches you exactly how long it takes to close a Fortune 100 contract (too long) and how to shorten it (be indispensable). When BPA was acquired by Nihilent Group, he stayed on as CEO, then left to build something from scratch.

Zelarsoft launched in June 2018, incorporated with a dual presence: US headquarters at 595 Pacific Avenue in San Francisco, and an India delivery center in Hyderabad's Guttala Begumpet. The structure reflected Maganti's thesis - build where the clients are, execute where the talent is deep.

Security and compliance remain major concerns with Kubernetes adoption. Securing the ecosystem involves a cross-combination of best practices, tools, and processes.

- Vasu Maganti on Kubernetes security

The pivot that defined Zelar's identity was the bet on Kubernetes before it was the obvious enterprise choice. While other consulting firms were still selling VMware migrations, Maganti's team was building multi-tenant Kubernetes platforms, writing Open Policy Agent policies for compliance automation, and implementing GitOps pipelines with Flux and Helm. That early depth became the moat.

By 2024, Zelar had earned Google Cloud Premier Partner status and the AI Partner All-Star designation - recognitions that require sustained delivery across specific technical competencies, not just partner spend. In 2025, Google named Zelar its Activation Partner of the Year for JAPAC at Google Cloud Next, affirming the company's ability to drive cloud adoption at scale across the Asia-Pacific region.

The rebranding from "Zelarsoft" to "Zelar" in early 2025 signals what Maganti sees next: a company that is as much a product business as a services firm. Klusternetes, OpenOps, and Cokpit are the opening moves in that transition.

The Meetup That Matters

Maganti co-organizes the Silicon Valley cloud-native meetup series alongside Josh Hurst and Thu Vuong. The talks - numbered and archived on the Cloud Native Silicon Valley YouTube channel - bring practitioners together around topics like GitOps container journeys, OpenTelemetry observability, Helm plus Flux demos, and Firecracker edge computing. Speakers have included engineers from JPMorgan Chase, Chronosphere, and other production-scale operators.

The community work is consistent with how Maganti positions Zelar: not as a vendor selling solutions, but as practitioners sharing what works. The company publishes technical content on Medium, participates in cybersecurity conferences including Black Hat MEA and AVAR Asia, and sends engineers to Kong API Summit. Zelar also maintains deep involvement in the CNCF ecosystem, particularly around Open Policy Agent - a commitment Maganti has publicly reinforced with the declaration: "OPA isn't going anywhere - and neither are we."

On Cloud Security: The 99% Problem

Maganti has a clear-eyed view of where cloud security failures come from. He has cited Gartner's finding that 99% of cloud security failures are the customer's fault - primarily through misconfiguration of cloud resources. His prescription is precise: Zero Trust Network Access to enforce least-privilege access, Cloud Security Posture Management tools to automate misconfiguration detection, and a security-as-code approach with Open Policy Agent policies that govern Kubernetes workloads at the policy level.

This isn't abstract consulting advice. Zelar's cybersecurity practice, led by EVP Zaman Kazi, operates a managed SOC and delivers cloud security automation across Zelar's Fortune 500 and government client base. The firm is ISO 27001:2013 certified - meaning it practices what it prescribes.

"Adopt a Zero Trust Network Access model to rigorously apply the least privilege access principles. Leverage Cloud Security Posture Management to automate identifying and remedying misconfigurations and compliance violations across cloud environments."
