A serial entrepreneur who spent the internet's early years selling golf gear online, then built Coro Health into one of the largest music and spiritual streaming services in healthcare.
David Schofman runs Coro Health, an Austin company built on a simple, stubborn idea: the media a person hears should be as personal as the care they receive. Under his direction the company packages therapeutic music and multi-faith spiritual content into subscription platforms - MusicFirst and FaithFirst - that now reach thousands of senior living communities, hospices and hospitals across the United States and Canada.
Schofman calls the centerpiece a Music Prescription Builder. Instead of a generic playlist, the system starts from an individual's history and preferences and assembles a program tuned to that one person. It is a product idea that sounds obvious in hindsight and took fifteen years of software, licensing and research partnerships to actually ship at scale.
He did not arrive from medicine or academia. Schofman is a builder of internet businesses who decided, in 2008, that the most interesting thing he could build next lived at the intersection of music, technology and care.
We have residents who don't know their name but can sing every line to a certain song.DAVID SCHOFMAN, CORO HEALTH
Schofman's first act was ecommerce, back when buying anything online still felt like a leap of faith. Starting in 1994 he built International Golf Outlet, one of the first online golf retail businesses, into a multi-million dollar company and sold it to CBS SportsLine in 1998.
He kept going. In 1999 he co-founded FrogTrader, which was acquired by Callaway Golf and became the company's ecommerce and interactive media arm. Schofman went on to serve as a chief executive and Executive Vice President of Global Ecommerce for Callaway Golf. He later co-founded PureWRX, a platform for OEM certified pre-owned IT hardware.
The through-line is not the industry. It is the instinct: find the human moment that technology skipped over, and build a business there.
Education: B.A. in Communication / Journalism, The University of Texas at Austin (1990-1994).
Built and sold one of the web's first golf retailers to CBS SportsLine.
Co-founded FrogTrader, acquired by Callaway; led global ecommerce.
Co-founded a platform for certified pre-owned IT hardware.
His current company - music, faith and neuroscience, delivered as software.
Coro Health did not start with a market analysis. It started closer to home. Schofman's mother spent roughly 25 years as a hospice nurse and built her working life around the comfort of elders. His daughter, who has special needs, responded strongly to music therapy through the Austin Center for Music Therapy.
Those experiences - a nurse's practice and a child's response to music - convinced Schofman there was something real, and repeatable, in how sound reaches people. The company he built tries to turn that intuition into a product that any care team can press play on.
To keep it grounded in evidence, Coro Health has worked with academic researchers, including collaboration referenced with Dr. Petr Janata at UC Davis' Center for Mind and Brain, studying how music engages the brain.
Uses music science to assemble individualized therapeutic programs - the engine behind the Music Prescription Builder.
A multi-faith library of spiritual audio and video content, on the premise that care is not only clinical.
