Who they are now

A factory-floor vending machine just won them a regional award. That is more on-brand than it sounds.

In late 2025, the trophy case at Zone24x7 filled up fast - seven awards across three competitions, one of the strongest years in a 22-year run. The product that did most of the winning was not a flashy consumer app or a chatbot demo. It was an industrial vending machine: a connected box that dispenses parts on a factory floor and quietly tracks every one of them. IoT hardware, intelligent software, analytics, all in one cabinet. It is the kind of unglamorous, deeply engineered thing most software companies would never touch.

Zone24x7 touches it on purpose. Headquartered in San Jose with its engineering muscle 14,000 kilometers away in Colombo, the company spends its days building the hard, integrated systems that big enterprises need but rarely want to build themselves. Machine vision that watches a retail shelf. RFID that tracks an asset nobody bothered to tag. A warehouse system that knows where everything is. The work is invisible when it goes right, which is most of the time.

Weave software and hardware into best-in-class solutions that ensure the enduring growth of our customers. - Zone24x7, company mission
The problem they saw

Software is easy to hire for. Hardware is where projects go to die.The gap between a slide deck and a working device is wider than anyone admits.

Here is the uncomfortable truth of enterprise technology: plenty of firms can write you an app. Far fewer can write the firmware, design the board, train the vision model, and make all three agree with each other in a warehouse at 2 a.m. The moment a project needs electrons as well as code, the supplier list gets very short and very expensive.

Most consultancies solve this by not solving it - they stay in pure software, hand the hardware to someone else, and let the customer manage the seam. That seam is where budgets bleed and timelines slip. Zone24x7's founders looked at that seam and decided it was the whole opportunity.

The companies that own the seam between hardware and software own the product. Everyone else is just renting a piece of it. - The bet, in plain terms
The founders' bet

Two founders, one contrarian wager: serve Silicon Valley's hardest engineering needs from Sri Lanka.

Zone24x7, Inc. was founded in 2003 by Llavan Fernando and Saw-Chin Fernando. In 2004 they stood up Zone24x7 (Private) Limited, an advanced technology center in Colombo, Sri Lanka - not a call center, not a body shop, but a place to do real research-grade engineering across software, embedded systems, electrical and mechanical disciplines. The structure is deliberate: a US entity to sit next to the customer, a deep talent bench to do the building.

Llavan Fernando
Founder & Chairman

The technopreneur behind the company. Built Zone24x7 from a US incorporation into a two-continent engineering operation.

Saw-Chin Fernando
Co-Founder & CFO

Co-founded both the US parent and the Colombo technology center, anchoring the finance and operations side of the bet.

The wager has aged well. The company is now led day-to-day by CEO Neschae Fernando, with a leadership bench that includes a Chief Operating Officer and - tellingly for an engineering firm - a Chief Scientific Officer. When your org chart has a PhD at the top of R&D, you are signaling what you sell.

Enhance the emotional experience of everyone we touch. - Zone24x7, company vision
The product

Not one product. A workshop that turns proofs of concept into things you can plug in.

Zone24x7 sells capability more than catalog. Its portfolio reads like a CIO's wishlist, and the through-line is integration - AI that runs on hardware, hardware that feeds software, software that actually ships.

AI & Data Science

Intelligence, end to end

Machine learning, NLP, predictive modeling and MLOps - from data discovery through model deployment, not just a notebook demo.

Computer Vision

Cognitive Vision Analytics

AI-based machine vision and video analytics for retail inventory, public safety, quality control and industrial automation.

Embedded Systems

The part with solder

Firmware, microcontroller design, real-time operating systems, battery and motor control - true hardware-software integration.

RFID

AceTrak tracking

RFID-based asset tracking, localization and inventory management for supply chains that still run on spreadsheets.

Logistics

Smart WMS

A next-gen warehouse management system that automates inventory control and fulfillment.

Engineering Services

Quality, DevOps, Security

Enterprise app development, automated and security testing, penetration testing and DevOps - the unglamorous spine of shipping software.

Above: eight service lines, one habit - refusing to stop at the edge of the software. The vending machine needed all of them.

The proof

Skeptics want numbers. Here are a few that survive scrutiny.

The customer roster runs from startups to Fortune 500 organizations, with Macy's Tech among the references. The company is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified - the kind of detail that bores a reader and reassures a procurement officer. And it lists Impinj as an RFID technology partner, which is how a tracking ambition becomes an actual RAIN RFID deployment.

2025: the award sweep, by competition

NBQSA 2025
Gold + IoT of the Year
SLASSCOM Ingenuity
National Winner
APICTA 2025
2nd Runner-up

Bars are illustrative of standing within each competition, not a single shared scale. Total: seven distinct awards across the three programs. Sources: company awards page and trade press, 2025.

A vending machine walked into three award shows and did not leave empty-handed. Engineering humor is a real thing.

The mission

What the company is actually trying to do, minus the brochure gloss.

Strip away the keywords - and there are a lot of keywords - and Zone24x7's purpose is steady: make enterprises run better by joining the things most vendors keep apart. The mission statement says "enduring growth of our customers," which is corporate for "we want to still be in the building five years from now." The vision is stranger and more interesting: enhance the emotional experience of everyone they touch. Engineers talking about emotion is either marketing or conviction. After 22 years of soldering, it reads more like the latter.

Most vendors keep hardware and software apart. The whole point here is to refuse to. - The mission, decoded
Why it matters tomorrow

2026: when everyone discovers AI is more than a chat window.

The company enters 2026 with a clear line: enterprise AI worth paying for is about productivity, visibility and decisions - connected systems, not a standalone bot. That is a convenient thing to believe when you have spent two decades wiring AI into hardware. It is also, increasingly, correct. The factories and warehouses and stores that need automation do not need another tab open in a browser. They need the cabinet on the floor to be smart, the asset on the shelf to announce itself, the model to run where the work happens.

Which brings us back to that vending machine. A connected box that dispenses parts and counts every one looks like a small thing. It is, in fact, the entire thesis in one cabinet: hardware and software fused until you cannot see the seam, doing a dull job perfectly, on a factory floor that will never tweet about it. Zone24x7 has been building that exact kind of thing since 2003. The trophies are new. The habit is not.

Hardware is hard. Zone24x7 has spent 22 years making that someone else's problem. - The short version
