Career Timeline
In His Own Words
"The real differentiator is our people's soft skills: the ability to listen, collaborate, empathize, and communicate honestly."
"Forte has been fully bootstrapped since day one... we grew by investing in people and staying true to who we are."
"The future of global delivery is evolving. It's no longer about chasing the lowest hourly cost."
"Stay ambitious, remain curious, and have fun along the way. The rest will follow."
Strategic Vision
Custom software development with AI embedded throughout the build cycle - not bolted on at the end, but woven into architecture, testing, and delivery from day one.
Artificial intelligence transforming how clients grow revenue and cut operational overhead - moving from experimentation to production-ready systems with real business outcomes.
Scalable, cloud-native data infrastructure as the non-negotiable prerequisite for AI success - building the pipelines and architectures that let clients activate value from their data.
"We don't just say what's easy; we say what's real, and we do it with empathy."
- Mikael Carlsson, on Forte Group's client approachScrapbook
Born in Sweden, now based in San Francisco - Carlsson has built his entire career across borders, leading teams from Eastern Europe to Latin America to North America.
He grew Lohika's revenue fivefold as EVP & GM - a run that ended with a Capgemini acquisition. That kind of exit validates the thesis before you arrive at the next company.
Forte Group has never taken venture capital or private equity. Every expansion - 25 years of it - has been funded by client work. Carlsson inherited that discipline and kept it.
One of Europe's top-ranked business schools, based in Henley-on-Thames, UK. It is the kind of institution that turns engineers into operators - which is exactly what the role requires.
Carlsson and Forte co-founder Michael Makishima had already worked together at both Capgemini and Lohika before reuniting at Forte. That history compresses the trust-building timeline considerably.
A YouTube documentary titled "Stockholm: Mikael Carlsson - A Life in Tech" explores his journey through the technology industry - a rare window into the person behind the press releases.
On Camera
The Stockholm-made documentary traces Mikael Carlsson's path through the technology industry - from early career to the global executive role he now holds. It is one of the few extended portraits of a career that has mostly been built in boardrooms and engineering war rooms, not in public.
