Arjun Vora Is Redesigning the Shift

After designing software for millions of Uber drivers, Arjun Vora noticed who enterprise technology kept leaving behind. Teambridge is his attempt to put flexibility, self-service, and better tools into every hourly worker’s pocket.

The useful thing about a driver’s phone is not that it contains an app. It is that, at the right moment, the app can return a little control. A driver can choose when to work, see what is happening, respond without a trip to an office, and move through the day with the system in a pocket. Arjun Vora spent years close to that experience at Uber, leading design for the driver-side product. He and fellow designer Tito Goldstein spoke with hundreds of drivers. The interviews kept pointing past the screen and toward the same deeper idea: flexibility and self-service were not decorations on the job. They were part of why people chose it.

The obvious corporate response would have been to polish the app. Vora and Goldstein instead carried the observation into a much larger, messier world. Nurses, hospitality crews, manufacturing workers, event staff, and home-care teams all live by schedules, qualifications, last-minute changes, and the small negotiations that keep a shift covered. Yet much of the software around them was built for an administrator at a desk. The worker often encountered the system as a paper notice, a group text, a form, or a phone call that arrived too late.

A life shaped by movement

Vora was born and raised in Mumbai. In a 2026 account of his story, he described growing up in a family without financial stability and coming to the United States in search of opportunity. School took him to Ann Arbor, where he studied at the University of Michigan after earning an engineering degree from the University of Mumbai. The relocation mattered on its own terms: a new city, a new climate, and a way into the American technology industry. His professional path then moved through MicroStrategy and Salesforce before Uber.

There is a tidy version of that résumé in which engineering gradually turns into product design and then company building. The more revealing version is about interfaces. At Salesforce, he worked on the visual grammar of enterprise software. At Uber, the interface had to function for people moving through actual streets, not sitting in a controlled office environment. His name appears on patents spanning graphical interfaces and network-service systems. Teambridge says he holds eight. The collection suggests a designer comfortable moving between what a product looks like and what the machinery behind it must do.

Vora also built a life with a long memory. He married the girlfriend he started dating in ninth grade, and they have two children. It is a detail far from the language of product road maps, but it gives his biography a useful counterweight: while his work has involved constant motion, one of its central relationships reaches back to adolescence in Mumbai.

The question hiding inside Uber

Vora and Goldstein met at Uber and spent five years leading work across Uber Driver and Uber for Business. Those products served more than four million drivers. Scale made the lesson difficult to dismiss. People did not value flexible work only because of a number on a pay statement. They valued the ability to decide, to see, and to act for themselves. Why, the two designers wondered, could that experience not extend to the rest of the hourly workforce?

They founded Teambridge in 2020. The company’s early conviction was that the repetitive administration of a workforce should be handled by software, while the worker should get a consumer-grade mobile experience. The platform launched in late 2022. By 2024, more than 100,000 hourly workers were using it across sectors that included medical staffing, home care, light industrial work, and hospitality.

That growth came from treating workforce management as more than a calendar. A staffing firm may need onboarding, credential checks, schedule claims, time and attendance, expenses, client communication, and payroll integrations. A venue has a different pattern of qualifications and demand. A home-care operator has another. If the software hard-codes one sequence, the customer must either change the business or escape into spreadsheets.

Vora’s favorite metaphor for the alternative is LEGO. Teambridge provides pieces that an operator can combine into workflows and custom mobile experiences. The metaphor is disarmingly domestic for enterprise software, which is part of its charm. A block has a clear job. It connects to another block. Complexity comes from composition rather than confusion.

The product thesis in four moves: encode what matters, automate the handoff, let the worker act, and close the operational loop.

Software that preserves the secret sauce

Most enterprise software promises best practices. Vora is more interested in the practice that makes one organization different from the next. A company might give its most reliable workers earlier access to desirable shifts. It might automatically approve a qualified person, delay access for another tier, and prevent someone without a credential from seeing the opportunity at all. In a public product demonstration, Vora walked through exactly that kind of system, down to the late arrivals, cancellations, and no-shows that changed a fictional worker’s status.

The example is small enough to understand and consequential enough to matter. It translates a manager’s informal policy into something visible and repeatable. It also shows the ethical pressure inside operational design. Rules affect who sees work, who gets approved, and who earns. Making those rules configurable can preserve a company’s judgment, but it also makes clarity and oversight essential. The interface is not merely arranging boxes. It is distributing opportunity.

The financing story followed the product story. In September 2024, Teambridge announced a $28 million Series B led by Mayfield, with General Catalyst and Abstract Ventures participating. At the time, Vora said the company would direct the money toward product research, AI, infrastructure, client service, and team growth. Revenue had tripled in the previous year and more than doubled again in the first half of 2024. Those figures offered evidence that the neglected corner of workplace software was also a substantial market.

AI leaves the desk

The next version of Vora’s thesis puts artificial intelligence into the operational loop. He argues that the largest opportunity for language models is their ability to close a technology gap for non-technical workers. In his telling, a user should be able to describe a workflow and watch the workspace, tools, and features take shape without technical training.

This is a more grounded ambition than asking a chatbot to sound clever. In frontline work, a useful result looks like a qualified replacement found before a shift starts, a missing punch surfaced, an expiring credential flagged, or a repetitive onboarding step completed. Teambridge has framed its AI products around specialists for jobs such as scheduling, timekeeping, attendance, compliance, onboarding, and payroll, with company rules serving as guardrails and managers retaining approval.

Vora’s instinct remains recognizably that of a product designer. Start with the person, notice where control disappears, then decide what the system can return. For the worker, that could be faster access to an open shift or a clearer view of what comes next. For the operator, it could be hours rescued from checking, chasing, and copying. The two outcomes are connected: a better-run system can give the worker a more predictable one.

Upward mobility, rendered in software

Vora has described Teambridge’s broader goal as empowering upward mobility for a demographic technology has forgotten. He puts the idea in practical language: technology should help a person do better, become a better version of themselves, and put more food on the table. If most advanced tools touch only the workforce that already sits in front of a computer, their benefits will follow the same narrow channel.

His own story gives that argument resonance without turning it into a neat parable. A boy grows up in Mumbai, crosses an ocean for school, and finds his way into the rooms where widely used software is made. He studies how millions of drivers use a phone to negotiate working life. Years later, he tries to give some of that agency to people in stadiums, care settings, hotels, factories, and job sites.

There is no single interface for upward mobility. Sometimes it is a degree, a relocation, a relationship, or a new role. Sometimes it is much smaller: seeing a shift in time to claim it, knowing why it is available, and being able to act without waiting for office hours. Vora’s work now lives inside those small moments. The bet behind Teambridge is that enough of them, designed carefully and connected well, can add up to movement.
