Manatal Puts the Hiring Mess on One Board

Manatal is the affordable ATS that wants your spreadsheet, inbox, job boards, and candidate notes in one calm place. The price is friendly; the buying decision depends on how much reporting, automation, and AI your team actually needs.

The first sign that a company needs an applicant tracking system is rarely a strategic revelation. It is usually a recruiter squinting at a spreadsheet called FINAL_candidates_v7, while a manager asks whether anyone replied to Priya. Manatal is built for that moment. It gathers candidate records, job pipelines, messages, interview notes, client activity, and reporting into one browser-based workspace. The immediate promise is modest and useful: everybody can see what happened, who owns the next step, and where each person sits in the process.

That makes Manatal especially relevant to recruitment agencies, independent recruiters, startups, and small or midsize in-house teams moving beyond improvised tools. Agencies get an ATS and a client-facing recruitment CRM in the same subscription. Internal teams get configurable pipelines, hiring-manager access, career pages, job distribution, and compliance controls. Large organizations can use it too, but their evaluation should lean harder on permissions, identity management, reporting depth, integrations, and data governance.

Why this product exists

Co-founders Jeremy Fichet and Yassine Bel Mamoun started Manatal in Bangkok in January 2019. Fichet had spent years scaling e-commerce businesses and told Forbes that recruiting remained frustrating and time-consuming. Their response was a lower-cost system aimed at making contemporary recruiting software available to smaller businesses, not only companies with procurement departments and heroic implementation calendars. The company announced a $5.1 million seed round in 2022 and now operates from Bangkok and Singapore.

The product still carries that origin story. Setup is designed to be quick, the central pipeline uses familiar cards and columns, and annual pricing is printed in public. Manatal says more than 10,000 active recruiting teams use the service across at least 135 countries. Its later 2025 recap used a broader measure, reporting 218,000 recruiters and more than 874,000 candidates hired using its sourcing tools across 140-plus countries. Treat those as company-reported scale markers rather than audited market share.

The board is the product

Manatal's quiet strength is the ability to take a candidate from a resume, professional network, career page, job board, forwarded email, CSV, or manual form and give that person one durable record. The record holds contact details, history, documents, messages, notes, activities, tags, matches, and consent status. Recruiters move candidates through custom stages with a drag-and-drop board, while duplicate detection reduces the chance that two colleagues contact the same person with two different versions of enthusiasm.

Agencies get another layer: organizations, contacts, leads, placements, client submissions, fees, and revenue tracking. That is why Reddit discussions often describe Manatal as more naturally shaped for staffing firms than for purely internal teams. It can serve both, but an agency is likelier to use the whole room. A solo recruiter in a company may never touch revenue reports or client portals, while an agency owner may consider them the reason to buy.

AI, with work boots on

The AI features attach themselves to recognizable chores. Imported resumes are parsed into fields. Candidate profiles can be enriched from public sources. Recommendations compare job requirements with skills, location, experience, and education; advanced search combines semantic meaning with conventional filters and Boolean terms. Job descriptions can be drafted from a prompt. These are aids for sorting and preparation. Manatal's own documentation warns that outputs can be incomplete or inaccurate and says final decisions remain with the customer.

The newer tools travel further. AI Interviewer runs asynchronous first-round video screens and returns recordings, transcripts, and assessments. AI Notetaker joins supported calendar meetings, records them, and saves transcripts against the relevant profile. AI Copilot answers natural-language questions inside Manatal. The public-beta MCP Server, limited to Enterprise Plus at the time of review, lets compatible assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude query recruiting data and perform supported actions. That could remove a great deal of tab shuffling. It also gives security and HR leaders an obvious homework assignment: decide which records an external AI interface may read or change, then test permissions with real roles.

Price: simple headline, detailed receipt

Professional costs $15 per user each month when billed annually. It includes 15 jobs and up to 10,000 candidates per account. Crucially, a job means a vacancy container, not one hire: a single job can carry multiple headcounts. Enterprise is $35 per user monthly on annual billing and removes the job and candidate limits while adding workflow automation. Enterprise Plus is $55 and adds SSO, user groups, Open API access, priority support, beta access, and the MCP Server. A 14-day trial requires no card.

PlanAnnual-billing priceThe practical fitWatch closely
Professional$15/user/moSmall teams with fewer than 15 open jobs10,000-candidate cap; no workflow automation
Enterprise$35/user/moBusy teams needing unlimited jobs and automationNo SSO, Open API, MCP, or priority support
Enterprise Plus$55/user/moIntegrated or governed deploymentsUsage charges and add-ons still need scoping

The plan price is not necessarily the final cost. AI Interviewer is an add-on, and sourcing credits, contact discovery, SMS, premium advertising, or third-party services may add usage charges. Some free and premium job-board posting requires Manatal to verify the account, typically after a paid subscription begins. One sharply negative Reddit account described paying and then failing verification. That is anecdotal, but it suggests a sensible trial step: confirm your legal entity, domain, target boards, country coverage, and refund terms before moving live vacancies.

Import 200 messy records, connect one mailbox, recreate one real pipeline, invite a skeptical hiring manager, publish a test role where allowed, and build the report your boss asks for every Monday. A polished demo is pleasant. Your inconvenient data is the exam.

What users praise, and where they grumble

The broad review signal is positive. At research time, G2 showed 4.8 out of 5 from 147 reviews; Capterra showed 4.6 from 142, with 4.7 for ease of use and 4.6 for customer service. Reviewers regularly mention the clean pipeline, centralized candidate database, value, and team visibility. In one official case study, Ground Zero described candidate history as useful for seeing whether an applicant was already deep in another client's process. Another customer story credits the system with helping ColorCrew cut 40 hours of manual work, though vendor case studies naturally select successful deployments.

The complaints are more instructive. Some reviewers find navigation clunky, want more flexible custom filtering, or dislike email limits. A 2025 G2 reviewer praised central records and duplicate handling but criticized recruiter-performance reporting, Microsoft Teams integration, and AI matching for complex roles. Reddit users have called the interface slow or less friendly for daily tasks than Bullhorn, while others report being happy with Manatal's activities dashboard and overall price. Manatal's August 2026 Advanced Reports release appears aimed directly at the reporting concern, adding custom dashboards, time-in-stage analysis, goals, revenue views, filters, and exports. Buyers should still reproduce their own KPI pack before signing.

How it stacks up

Manatal occupies a useful middle lane. Workable and Teamtailor often appeal to in-house teams that emphasize job distribution, career marketing, and candidate experience. Greenhouse and Lever are common structured-hiring choices with broader enterprise mindshare. Bullhorn brings deep staffing-industry workflows, usually with more implementation weight. Recruit CRM and Loxo compete directly for agencies; Zoho Recruit attracts budget-conscious teams already comfortable with the Zoho ecosystem. Manatal's case rests on combining agency CRM, approachable ATS mechanics, sourcing, and public entry pricing.

Security and the quiet details

Manatal says its services run on Amazon Web Services in the United States, with customer data stored there. The company holds SOC 2 Type II certification, advertises 99.9 percent or higher uptime, encrypts data in transit and at rest, performs daily backups retained for 30 days, and provides role-based access controls. It offers tools supporting GDPR, CCPA, PDPA, LGPD, consent tracking, deletion requests, and compliance reporting. Enterprise buyers should request the audit report and data-processing agreement, map international transfers, test deletion workflows, and verify retention settings. A compliance feature helps a customer operate a process; it does not confer compliance by subscription.

The product is a web app with a progressive mobile experience rather than a separately advertised native iOS or Android app. It also offers a Chrome sourcing extension, OpenAPI v3, Zapier and n8n connections, and a growing integration directory. If one payroll, HRIS, assessment, background-check, or communications system is essential, verify the exact direction and frequency of sync. The word “integration” can cover anything from a polished two-way bridge to a webhook and a hopeful afternoon.

The verdict

Manatal is a sensible first serious ATS for an agency or growing hiring team that values a visible pipeline, consolidated candidate history, sourcing tools, and a comprehensible starting price. It is also becoming a more capable operating system for recruiters through custom reports, portals, automated screening, and conversational access to live records.

Buy only after testing the edges your team hits every week: complex search, task management, reporting, job-board verification, email and SMS, data migration, and required integrations. Small teams with ordinary workflows are likely to find a great deal of system for the money. Teams with elaborate governance or highly specialized reporting should make Manatal prove every difficult requirement during the trial.
