Fullstory finds the cost of a bad click.

A rare checkout error can hide a very real business problem. Fullstory connects the customer’s struggle to the numbers that make somebody fix it.

At Chipotle, the clue was a service error. It appeared when a small group of customers tried to finish an online order. The analytics team watched their sessions, reproduced the problem, then counted how often it happened. In isolation, it was infrequent. Across a restaurant chain’s customer base, the lost orders became a business case.

The story in three clicks
  • See the struggle. Replay puts a customer’s actions beside the numbers.
  • Price the problem. Measure how many journeys it affects before setting priorities.
  • Close the loop. Fix the fault, offer guidance, then check the outcome.

After the product team prioritized a fix, Chipotle recovered 71.5% of the revenue lost to that particular error, according to Fullstory’s customer account. The denominator matters. This was money associated with one failure, rather than a sudden leap in total sales. But the sequence explains Fullstory’s appeal: make a small, invisible problem concrete enough that somebody acts.

The customer who leaves no complaint

Most digital businesses have an awkward witness problem. They can count departures without understanding the experience immediately before them. A funnel tells a team where people disappear. It cannot, by itself, distinguish a customer who changed their mind from one who met a broken interface. Both can look like abandonment.

Fullstory combines behavioral analytics with session replay: a reconstruction of what someone experienced on a website or mobile app. Teams can examine interactions, search for patterns, build funnels and investigate errors. Heatmaps add an aggregate view. The useful move is between scales, from one person’s frustrating moment to the population facing something similar.

“You can see where people are falling out, but not why.”

That makes the audience broader than an analytics department. Engineers need reproducible faults. Product managers need a way to rank work. Support teams need context without making customers narrate every click. Fullstory serves thousands of organizations; its public customer roster stretches from JetBlue and Lowe’s to ServiceTitan. The common material is digital behavior.

The diagnostic tool that escaped the workshop

The origin has a pleasing symmetry. Scott Voigt, Bruce Johnson and Joel Webber had worked together before, at Innuvo, acquired by Google in 2005. Their next venture began with a marketing product. When it struggled, they built tooling to understand what users were doing. The diagnostic instrument became the more promising business. Fullstory launched in 2014.

That history helps explain its technical emphasis. Fullcapture automatically collects permitted interactions, letting teams investigate questions they had not specified in advance. Historical analysis is bounded by what was captured and retained. Still, reducing the need to predict every useful question before launch changes how a team can work: curiosity can arrive after the event.

The company’s stated culture gives this habit a name: “Assess & Adapt.” Its other published values include ownership and clear communication. Those are company aspirations, but they fit a product that makes a hunch easier to examine and a finding easier to share.

A heatmap with an accounting habit

Session replay is a crowded market. Fullstory’s own comparison pages name Contentsquare, Quantum Metric, Amplitude, Mixpanel, LogRocket and Pendo among alternatives. These products overlap in different ways. Fullstory’s pitch centers on connecting detailed behavioral capture, quantitative analysis and investigation in one platform. Buyers should test that connection against their actual questions.

Its revenue heatmaps illustrate the idea. Instead of stopping at where people clicked, the interface connects page elements with measures such as revenue and conversion. The colored patch becomes a route into an investigation. A team can ask whether a popular element helps people finish, then inspect sessions around the answer.

Watching becomes helping

The product range now extends beyond investigation. Anywhere carries behavioral data into warehouses and activation systems. Workforce applies the approach to internal tools and employee workflows. StoryAI adds summaries, questions and automated investigation. These are different destinations for the same basic asset: a record of what happened during a digital experience.

In November 2025, Fullstory made its first acquisition, buying Usetiful. Guides and Surveys followed in February 2026, adding in-app tours, checklists and feedback. The strategic shift is easy to understand. Once a system recognizes a point of friction, a timely guide can help someone finish the task. Observation gains a means of intervention.

The AI push follows a similar logic. Fullstory MCP connects behavioral context to tools including Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini. Agentic Session Review, announced in July 2026, lets coding agents investigate structured session evidence. In September, Fullstory reported more than 100% year-over-year growth in multi-product recurring revenue. That is a company-reported adoption signal, with no disclosed total revenue attached.

The price of paying attention

FullstoryFree includes 30,000 monthly sessions for up to ten users. Paid Analytics plans are Business, Advanced and Enterprise, with custom quotes and optional add-ons. In 2021, the company raised $103 million at a $1.8 billion valuation; further financing followed in 2022. Those historical capital figures should not be confused with a customer’s subscription cost.

The practical expense also includes people’s time. Someone must configure capture, investigate evidence and ship changes. Privacy controls exclude sensitive information and support masking; that deliberately limits what a replay reveals. A session shows observable behavior. Establishing motivation still benefits from asking customers, and establishing causation calls for stronger tests.

For a team able to act, the copyable lesson is modest: choose a failed outcome, inspect it, count it and measure again after the fix. Chipotle’s investigation began with something easy to dismiss. Fullstory’s business rests on giving that small interruption enough context to deserve attention.
