Freshsales

The CRM that got tired of making sales teams suffer. Built by Freshworks, trusted by 67,000+ businesses, powered by an AI named Freddy.

NASDAQ: FRSH San Mateo, CA Founded 2010 $907M ARR AI-Powered CRM

A sales desk in San Mateo with 67,000 clients and an AI that never sleeps

Picture a sales rep at a mid-sized company somewhere in the world - probably running three browser tabs, two spreadsheets, and one expired free trial of something expensive. They are not closing deals. They are managing software. Freshsales exists to end that particular tragedy.

Freshsales is the CRM product from Freshworks Inc. (NASDAQ: FRSH), a San Mateo-based software company with $907 million in annual recurring revenue, 5,000 employees, and 67,000 business customers. It competes directly against HubSpot, Salesforce, and Zoho - but it does so by refusing to become what those companies became: expensive, complicated, and slightly resentful of the people using them.

$907M ARR (2025)
67K+ Customers
5,000+ Employees
80% Queries Freddy Resolves
1,400+ Integrations

The product is straightforward: a CRM with built-in phone, chat, email automation, lead scoring, pipeline management, and - increasingly - an AI layer called Freddy that handles the tedious parts of selling. The company reached GAAP profitability in 2025, which in the SaaS world is the adult equivalent of finally doing your taxes without crying.

"Make it fast and easy for businesses to delight their customers and employees."

- Girish Mathrubootham, Freshworks Founder

Enterprise software was designed for enterprise budgets, not human beings

In 2010, Girish Mathrubootham was a VP of Product Management at ManageEngine. He read a Hacker News post. A customer was furious about Zendesk raising prices. Girish recognized that fury - the specific helplessness of paying too much for software you depend on but barely tolerate.

He quit. He called his colleague Shan Krishnasamy, the company's future CTO. They started building Freshdesk from a Chennai apartment, with the explicit goal of making support software that didn't feel like an obstacle course.

By 2016, they had expanded into CRM. Same problem, different department: sales software was either too expensive (Salesforce), too complicated (enterprise suites), or too limited (spreadsheets dressed up with a monthly fee). Freshsales launched to fill that gap - a real CRM, priced for growing companies, designed for the person actually doing the selling.

"The best software is software people actually want to use."

- Freshworks company philosophy

The framing was simple and it worked: if a tool makes your life harder, it's not a tool. It's a tax.

A product manager, a technical co-founder, and a Hacker News comment that changed things

Girish Mathrubootham
Founder & Former CEO

Former VP of Product at ManageEngine/Zoho. Electrical engineering grad turned MBA turned founder. Rang the NASDAQ bell in September 2021. Now building Together Fund, a VC for AI-led startups.

Shan Krishnasamy
Co-Founder & Former CTO

The technical architect behind Freshworks' early infrastructure. Helped build the systems that would eventually support $900M+ in ARR before stepping back from the company in 2022.

What made the Freshworks bet interesting wasn't that the founders were visionaries. It was that they were operators who had worked inside the very kind of software they wanted to replace. They knew what made it frustrating - not from user research, but from experience.

Girish's background in enterprise software at ManageEngine meant he understood pricing psychology, sales cycles, and the specific complaints customers whispered to support agents but never escalated to executives. That knowledge became the product roadmap.

Six products, one AI, and a free tier that actually works

Freshsales is the CRM at the center of the Freshworks universe - but the company now ships a suite of connected products. Think of it as a full-stack customer engagement platform, where each product handles a different part of the business relationship.

Freddy AI is the piece worth watching. Unlike AI add-ons bolted onto legacy systems, Freddy was built model-agnostic - meaning Freshworks can swap in whatever underlying language model performs best without making it the customer's problem. It includes Freddy Copilot (real-time agent assistance), Freddy AI Agents (autonomous query resolution), and Freddy Insights (reporting and automation). The no-code Freddy AI Agent Studio, launched in late 2024, lets teams build their own autonomous agents without writing code.

"Freddy AI doesn't just answer questions. It decides which ones don't need a human at all."

Customers, numbers, and why NHS and Honda trust the same software as your startup

The breadth of Freshworks' customer list is the most surprising part of the story. NHS (the UK National Health Service), Honda, Hugo Boss, Cisco, Toshiba, and Rawlings Sporting Goods sit alongside thousands of smaller companies. That's not a marketing win. It's a product architecture argument: the system works at scale and it works for small teams, simultaneously.

Synergy Enterprise Solutions, a mid-market customer, grew monthly recurring revenue 40% in six months after adopting Freshsales. Outbound contact pace increased 90% in twelve months. Administrative task time fell 20%. These aren't outlier numbers - they're the kind of operational improvement that happens when salespeople stop fighting their tools.

The partner ecosystem adds another layer of scale: 500+ global value-added resellers and system integrators, accounting for roughly one-third of Freshworks' total sales. The partner program offers up to 40% margins - competitive enough that serious channel partners build practices around it.

"67,000 businesses don't choose the same CRM by accident. At some point, simplicity becomes a competitive advantage in itself."

- Freshworks company overview

Uncomplicated software, in an era when everyone is making it more complicated

Freshworks' stated mission is to "make it fast and easy for businesses to delight their customers and employees." The vision is to be "the uncomplicated AI-native service platform." The word "uncomplicated" appears deliberately. The company uses it like a dare.

In a market where the dominant players compete on feature count - where the sales pitch is "we can do everything" - Freshworks competes on the opposite axis. The value proposition is not capability. It's usability. The product that a salesperson actually opens every morning wins over the one with a better demo.

That philosophy now has an AI dimension. Where competitors are retro-fitting AI onto systems designed in the 2000s, Freshworks built Freddy AI as a model-agnostic layer that spans every product. The AI Trust framework addresses content moderation and security. Freddy Copilot works alongside human agents in real time. Freddy Agents operate autonomously for routine queries. The goal is not to replace the sales team - it's to make the time they spend on administration as close to zero as possible.
