A Singapore fintech built around one small betrayal every traveler knows - the rate on the money changer's board is never the rate you get. YouTrip's multi-currency wallet and Mastercard prepaid card hand people the wholesale rate instead, and skip the added fee.
Every traveler has felt it. You hand over cash at the airport money changer, glance at the rate glowing on the board, and walk away vaguely certain you were overcharged. You were. That gap between the advertised rate and the rate people actually receive - the quiet spread and the hidden fee - is where YouTrip built a business. Since 2018, the Singapore company has run a mobile multi-currency wallet paired with a Mastercard prepaid card, letting people hold up to ten currencies in an app and spend in more than 150 abroad at wholesale exchange rates, without tacking on a transaction fee.
The idea is almost boringly simple, which is part of why it worked. YouTrip did not try to become a bank. It took one specific, universally resented piece of financial friction and removed it. A traveler tops up the wallet in their home currency, exchanges in-app at rates close to the interbank market, and taps the card in Bangkok or Tokyo without a foreign-transaction surcharge. What the customer sees is what the customer pays.
Behind the wallet are two co-founders. Caecilia Chu, the Co-Founder and CEO, came from a consulting background and studied at the Wharton School before earning an MBA from Harvard Business School. Arthur Mak, Co-Founder and Chairman, backed the company early. Together they launched under the corporate umbrella of You Technologies Group, and the consumer YouTrip brand predates the company's later business products by several years. Chu is also among a small group of women leading a fintech of this scale in Southeast Asia - a fact investors and press have returned to repeatedly.
YouTrip's first customers were exactly who you would expect: outbound travelers, frequent flyers, digital nomads, and online shoppers buying from overseas merchants. For them the problem was not exotic. It was the accumulation of small, opaque charges - the 3% foreign-transaction fee, the poor conversion rate, the dynamic-currency-conversion trap at overseas terminals. YouTrip's answer bundles in-app currency exchange, real-time rates, overseas card spending, ATM withdrawals, and cashback into a single app. Reported app downloads have passed 1.5 million, concentrated in its two home markets of Singapore and Thailand.
The scale is easier to grasp in flow than in headcount. Across Singapore and Thailand alone, YouTrip has said it processes roughly US$15 billion in transaction volume a year. That figure - money moving through a consumer wallet - is the number that made a Series B possible in a cautious funding market.
Bank cards and money changers bury a spread and a fee in every overseas swipe. YouTrip exchanges at wholesale rates and shows the cost up front.
Travelers used to carry cash in several currencies or eat conversion costs. The wallet holds up to 10 at once, switchable in-app in seconds.
Small businesses paid FX fees on cross-border spend with little control. YouBiz gives them a zero-FX corporate card and one expense hub.
The flagship. A mobile wallet plus Mastercard prepaid card - hold and exchange up to 10 currencies in-app, spend in 150+ overseas with no added FX fee, withdraw at ATMs, and earn cashback.

An in-app rewards and cashback layer, giving YouTrip users deals and cashback with online and merchant partners on top of everyday spending.
YouTrip does not charge consumers an explicit FX fee. It earns on the exchange spread and on card interchange each time the card is tapped. The consumer product is deliberately close to free at the point of use; the economics work because of volume. On the business side, YouBiz adds interchange, subscription-style revenue and lending. It is a model that rewards scale - the more money moves through the wallet, the better it works, which is why the ~US$15B volume figure matters more than any single fee.
Global players like Wise and Revolut chase the same borderless-money customer, and traditional banks sell their own travel cards. YouTrip's edge is regional focus and localization: it launched market by market in Southeast Asia rather than everywhere at once, tuning to local currencies, top-up methods and travel corridors. It waited roughly eight years to open its third market - deliberate rather than blitzscaled. For SMEs, YouBiz competes with the likes of Aspire and Nium on FX-free spend and fast, data-driven credit.
YouTrip occupies a specific slice of the fintech map: cross-border consumer payments in Asia Pacific, with an expanding SME arm. It is a neobank-adjacent player that never tried to hold your salary account - it wanted the part of your money that crosses a border. That focus let it build density in Singapore and Thailand before the December 2025 launch in Australia, its first new market since the pandemic and its bet that outbound travelers everywhere resent the same overcharge. Management has signaled two more Asia Pacific markets to follow.
