THE BRIEFING
US ANGELS / INDEPENDENT INVESTORSCAPITAL · COUNSEL · CONNECTIONSONLINE MEETING LISTED / OCT 28, 2026

Company / Venture capital

US Angels opens the room. You still have to win the check.

US Angels brings founders face to face with investors who make their own decisions. That small distinction explains the whole business.

The important thing to notice about US Angels is who gets to say yes. A founder can arrive with a polished deck, explain a promising company and reach a room full of investors. But the room does not write a check. The people in it decide for themselves. That distinction, easy to miss in the rush to raise money, is the organizing principle of this Palo Alto investor network.

The short version
  • Startup presentations connect founders with accredited angel investors.
  • Members make independent investment decisions; US Angels controls no fund.
  • Screening materials and meeting access are part of the membership offering.

Its promise is practical: access to capital, counsel and connections. Consider what that means for a young business. A founder may know the product intimately and still struggle to reach someone willing to examine it. An investor may have money available and still need a useful way to encounter companies. US Angels puts those two problems on the same calendar.

A room with many checkbooks

The organization describes its members as mostly current or former executives and entrepreneurs. It brings together people who can contribute experience as well as money. Its stated interests extend across technology, internet businesses, healthcare, medical devices and consumer goods. The attraction is the possibility that someone listening understands the business well enough to ask a consequential question.

“Investor members invest individually: there is no fund controlled by US Angel Investors.”

US Angels’ public company description

That sentence establishes where the organization’s authority ends. A presentation does not amount to a group commitment. A founder is addressing several possible decision makers, each with a separate appetite for the opportunity. The useful question afterward is therefore specific: which person wants to continue the conversation? Counting the audience cannot answer it.

US Angels occupies the part of the funding market where introductions and examination matter before any transaction can happen. Other angel groups, including Band of Angels, Sand Hill Angels and Life Science Angels, offer founders alternative audiences. US Angels’ published structure gives a prospective participant a clear starting point for comparison: understand the access being offered, then identify the person who might invest.

One presentation. Several possible answers. A schematic of the independent-investor model, not a promised funding process.

The useful machinery is backstage

A public recruiting description posted in July 2026 gives the meetings some texture. US Angels typically runs one or more online meetings each month, with roughly three to six startup companies presenting. The stated range runs from seed through Series A and beyond. Technology and healthcare feature prominently, while other high-growth businesses can receive consideration.

The same description separates US Angels from a related project, VENTURE Forum. The Forum organizes a series of online events connecting startups and investors, including presentations and opportunities to book individual meetings. This matters because an invitation carrying both names can otherwise sound like a single, undifferentiated fundraising service. The recurring investor meeting and the larger event project have related purposes and distinct formats.

The Spring 2025 Forum website describes two US Angels membership levels. The fuller US ANGELS offering includes virtual investor meetings, Forum meetings, deep screening recordings and transcripts, Dealum company summaries, and occasional Silicon Valley dinners. US ANGELS NETWORK includes free virtual investor meetings; Forum participation carries a fee unless the participant is a judge or panelist.

Those benefits reveal an organization doing work between presentations. A recording lets an investor revisit an answer. A transcript makes an assertion easier to locate. A company summary gives the next conversation a starting point. These are modest tools, but they make the pitch less dependent on what somebody remembers from a crowded afternoon.

The man connecting the conversations

John Ricci, founder and managing director of US Angels
The room has an organizer. John Ricci, US Angels’ founder and managing director. Portrait published by BlackPearl.Chain.

John Ricci identifies himself as the founder of US Angels. A KYTO annual report from 2021 dates his tenure as managing director to 2003. His current Venture Forum biography places his investing interests in technology, healthcare and life sciences and also identifies him as director of portfolio management at K2X Capital.

His public biography adds another useful detail: mentoring at Runway, Alchemist and Plug and Play. Those are separate affiliations, rather than proof of a formal partnership with US Angels. They help explain the kind of experience its founder brings to conversations about financing, business development and taking a company into the US market.

There is also a recorded glimpse of his interests beyond the pitch itself. In a 2021 conversation with Andrew Romans, Ricci participated in a discussion about how angels can become more involved in venture funds, including sourcing companies, diligence and mentoring founders. The topic fits an organizer concerned with what investors do after they first encounter a business.

The room became a video call

US Angels’ recruiting material attributes its move online to COVID-19. The change altered the logistics of meeting investors: a founder could present without making the journey to a physical gathering. The underlying decision remained individual. Digital access made the room easier to reach; it did not make agreement automatic.

The format remains visible in current listings. An online US ANGELS investor meeting is scheduled for October 28, 2026, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Pacific time. The event description identifies accredited investors and guests as its audience. That is a defined gathering with an investment purpose, rather than an open invitation for anyone to buy into a startup.

Count the next decisions

For a founder, the lesson is to prepare for what follows the presentation. Explain the business so a particular investor can decide whether to investigate. Know what the money would accomplish. Make the next conversation concrete. These are practical implications of the model, rather than promises that the network will finance a company.

US Angels makes sense for someone seeking an investor audience and the possibility of experienced counsel. It offers no basis for treating attendance as committed capital. The distinction is useful far beyond this organization: before celebrating the number of people who heard the pitch, establish who is actually considering the business. That is where a meeting begins to become something else.
