The marketplace that turns clean electrons into tradable, verifiable proof of green power.
Every company now claims to run on clean energy. Almost none can prove it. REDEX, a Singapore climate-tech firm founded in 2018, built the receipt - and then built the market to trade it.
That receipt is a Renewable Energy Certificate, or REC: a digital record that one megawatt-hour of electricity was generated from a renewable source. Buy a REC and retire it, and a company can substantiate that its power was green and lower the Scope 2 emissions it reports. REDEX operates what it calls Asia's leading platform for these certificates.
The company sits between two groups who rarely speak the same language. On one side are renewable generators - solar farms and other clean-power producers - who want to turn their output into an extra revenue stream. On the other are corporates, from SMEs to multinationals, chasing ESG targets and net-zero commitments. REDEX registers the generation, verifies it, lists the certificates for sale, and records their retirement.
Founder and chief executive Jen Wee Kang spent roughly 15 years in Asia's solar industry before starting the firm, and helped shape Singapore's own REC standards along the way. That background explains REDEX's central bet: in energy, the hard part is not making the power. It is making the world trust the claim.
To protect that trust, REDEX uses a blockchain-enabled public ledger to track how certificates change hands and when they are retired - a guard against the cardinal sin of the market, double-counting. It is also an Accredited Platform Operator under the I-TRACK Foundation, the body behind the international standard for energy-attribute certificates.
The approach has drawn notable backing. In October 2023 REDEX closed a $10 million Series A led by Aramco Ventures - the venture arm tied to one of the world's largest oil companies - with investors from the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Japan. The same year, it won Singapore's Emerging Enterprise Sustainability Award and ranked among the country's fastest-growing companies.
"We are planning to get into the Middle East and Latin America markets through the partnership with our strategic investors."
Jen Wee Kang — Founder & CEO, REDEXRenewable assets are onboarded and their clean-power generation is recorded as certificates.
Production is verified against international standards to ensure each REC is legitimate.
Buyers and sellers transact RECs on REDEX's marketplace, integrated with the I-REC registry.
A certificate is retired once - permanently claimed against a company's emissions, recorded on-ledger.
A digital REC trading platform integrated with the I-REC registry, letting buyers and sellers transact certificates with blockchain-backed transparency.
Asset onboarding and monetization for renewable generators, turning solar and other clean-power production into tradable RECs.
A corporate tool to manage renewable-energy goals, track Scope 2 emissions and support ESG and sustainability reporting.
An API layer so partners and enterprise systems can build REC issuance, trading and retirement directly into their workflows.
Where it fits: REDEX is the plumbing of the green-energy trade - not a power producer, but the marketplace that makes the claim believable.
