Monthly Data

A petabyte a month. Quietly.

Right now, while you're reading this, Hevo Data is moving data. A fintech team in London just had their Salesforce records land in Snowflake. A healthcare startup in New York got fresh Postgres rows into BigQuery without anyone writing a single line of Python. A logistics company in Singapore saw their Shopify orders sync to Redshift in near-real-time.

None of those engineers got a page. None of them wrote a cron job. None of them built a connector.

That is the entire business model. And it is working. In 2024, Hevo Data reported $46.9 million in annual recurring revenue - up 50% from the year before - with a 242-person team split between San Francisco and Bengaluru. They process more than one petabyte of data per month. They have customers in 40+ countries. Sequoia backed them. G2 keeps giving them Leader badges. Their review scores on every platform are boringly, reliably good.

They are not the loudest name in data infrastructure. They are the one your data engineer recommends quietly, like a good mechanic.

"The thing nobody tells you about data pipelines is that building them is the easy part. Maintaining them at 2am is the job."

The problem Hevo Data was built to solve

Every company has data. Almost none can move it cleanly.

Here is what every data team knows and almost no executive wants to hear: the modern data stack is held together with duct tape. There are Airflow jobs that someone wrote three engineers ago. There are custom connectors that only work if you don't change the source schema. There are pipelines that break every time Salesforce pushes an API update.

The standard solution is to hire more data engineers. Those engineers build more connectors. Those connectors require more maintenance. The cycle compounds. A mid-sized company with 20 SaaS tools needs something like a full-time engineer just to keep data flowing cleanly into its warehouse.

Manish Jethani and Sourabh Agarwal had seen this up close. Before Hevo, they built SpoonJoy, a food delivery app in India that was acquired by Grofers in 2015. After the acquisition, working inside a fast-scaling startup, they watched data infrastructure become an ongoing emergency rather than a solved problem. Every growth milestone meant more sources, more pipelines, more maintenance overhead.

In 2017, they decided to build the thing they wished existed: a platform that abstracts all of that complexity away.

"We realized that data from applications used to manage sales, marketing, and customer support often stayed siloed. The tools existed. The integration did not."

Manish Jethani, Co-Founder

Two IIT engineers who delivered food and ended up building the internet's plumbing

Manish Jethani (IIT Roorkee) and Sourabh Agarwal are serial founders, but not the kind who collect startups as trophies. SpoonJoy was a real business - on-demand restaurant delivery in India, before Swiggy and Zomato swallowed the category. Getting acquired by Grofers gave them capital, operational perspective, and one very specific insight: fast-growing companies drown in their own data.

The bet they made in 2017 was precise: the market needed a managed data pipeline service that could serve both early-stage startups and enterprise-grade organizations, with pricing and complexity that scaled accordingly. No-code for the people who didn't want to write connectors. Full CDC and dbt integration for the ones who did.

They started with a seed round from Sequoia Capital India's Surge accelerator. By 2020, Qualgro led a Series A. By December 2021, Sequoia was back for the Series B at $30 million. The company had grown 500% in the year before that round closed.

Sourabh Agarwal
Co-Founder & CTO

Engineering backbone of the platform. Responsible for Hevo's architecture that now handles petabyte-scale data movement, CDC pipelines, and real-time schema drift detection across 150+ connectors.

150 connectors. One platform. No maintenance windows.

Hevo's core product is an automated ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) platform. The core promise is simple: pick your source, pick your destination, and Hevo handles everything between them. Schema changes, API updates, rate limits, backfills - the platform absorbs all of it. The data engineer gets an alert only when something genuinely unusual happens.

The connectors cover the full landscape of the modern data stack. Databases with CDC support (Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, SQL Server). SaaS applications (Salesforce, HubSpot, Shopify, Stripe). Streaming sources. Cloud storage. Event platforms. If your data lives somewhere, there is probably already a Hevo connector for it.

Hevo Pipeline

Core ETL/ELT engine. 150+ pre-built connectors, real-time replication, Change Data Capture, incremental loads, schema drift auto-detection. Set it and leave it.

Hevo Activate

Reverse ETL. Move clean, transformed data from your warehouse back into operational tools - CRMs, marketing platforms, support software. Close the loop.

🧱
Hevo Transform

SQL-based and dbt-integrated transformation. Model and enrich data in-pipeline without switching tools. Works the way your team already thinks.

🚀
Hevo Edge

Latest-gen pipeline engine. 4x faster historical loads. 10x faster incremental runs. Enhanced CDC connectors. Built for teams processing data at serious scale.

Customer case studies in B2B SaaS are easy to inflate. Vague statements about "improved efficiency" and "streamlined workflows" fill up websites without saying much. Hevo's numbers are specific, which is either confidence or a rare commitment to honesty.

Postman - the API platform used by millions of developers - saves 30 to 40 hours of developer time every week using Hevo. ThoughtSpot reduced its data infrastructure costs by 85%, improved utilization by 30-35%, and achieved zero downtime in the process. Deliverr replicated twice as much data in near-real-time and saved two full engineering weeks per month. Those are numbers that CFOs can calculate ROI from.

Hevo Data saves us 30-40 hours of developer time per week. It handles everything so our engineers focus on building product, not maintaining plumbing.

What happens when any company can move data like the big ones

Hevo's stated mission is to democratize data-driven decision making. It is a phrase so common in tech that it has nearly lost meaning. What they actually mean - based on the product choices they've made - is that data integration should not require a dedicated team of engineers to maintain.

A 10-person startup should be able to move data from Stripe and HubSpot into Snowflake with the same reliability as a 10,000-person enterprise. A hospital operations team should get clean data from their EHR into their analytics warehouse without a compliance-conscious engineer writing custom connectors. A logistics company should not have to choose between real-time data and a manageable engineering headcount.

This is not a radical idea. It is just harder to execute than it sounds. Maintaining 150 connectors across a landscape of APIs that change constantly - that is genuinely difficult work. The value Hevo creates is in absorbing that difficulty so their customers don't have to.

"The best infrastructure is the kind you forget about. Hevo is trying to become the infrastructure nobody notices because nothing is breaking."

The bet that gets harder and more valuable as the data stack grows

Why it matters tomorrow

The modern data stack is getting more complex, not less. AI workflows require clean, fresh data. Compliance requirements around data residency and privacy are tightening globally. The number of SaaS applications per company keeps growing. Every new tool generates new data that someone needs to move somewhere.

Hevo is positioned at exactly this intersection. Their 2024 product releases - Hevo Edge with 10x faster incremental runs, Redshift Serverless support, Snowflake key pair authentication - signal a company building for the next five years of the stack, not just the current one. Their compliance certifications (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, SOC 2, DORA) signal they understand that enterprise data infrastructure is as much a legal and governance problem as a technical one.

The competitors are real. Fivetran, Airbyte, Stitch, Matillion - the space is crowded and the incumbents are well-funded. What differentiates Hevo is the combination of breadth (150+ connectors), reliability (the Reliability Engine and Fault-Tolerant Architecture), and pricing predictability (no surprise bills based on row counts). In a category where "set it and forget it" is the selling point, the companies that actually deliver on that promise tend to win on word-of-mouth over time.

Right now, somewhere, a data engineer is telling their colleague about Hevo. Quietly. Like a good mechanic.

Details that didn't fit anywhere else

Before Hevo, the founders ran a food delivery startup. SpoonJoy was acquired by Grofers in 2015. Going from delivering biryani to moving petabytes of enterprise data is, technically, still logistics.

Hevo's free tier handles up to 1 million events per month. That's enough for most early-stage startups to run their entire data stack without paying anything. It's an unusual go-to-market for an enterprise product - but it works.

1 petabyte per month means Hevo is moving roughly 33 terabytes every single day, across thousands of pipelines, for customers in 40+ countries. That's about 8 million copies of a feature film, daily.

Sequoia Capital India invested at seed stage, then came back to lead the Series B. That kind of return engagement from a tier-1 VC signals something more than just good pitch decks.

The company name "Hevo" reflects the goal of making heavy-lifting feel lightweight. Whether that was the actual etymology or retroactive branding is left as an exercise to the reader.

Despite being headquartered in San Francisco, Hevo has significant engineering depth in Bengaluru. The founders' India roots are structural, not cosmetic.
