The Story

Being found is now an engineering problem

For most of the internet's life, being discoverable meant one thing: ranking on Google. A marketing team wrote good copy, chased keywords, and waited for the crawler. Botify was built on a less comfortable premise - that for the world's largest websites, search stopped being a copywriting exercise and became a matter of infrastructure. When a retailer runs three million product pages, no human can audit which ones are crawlable, indexed, fast enough, or worth a search engine's limited attention.

Founded in Paris in 2012 by Adrien Menard, Thomas Grange and Stan Chauvin, Botify set out to bring data science to technical SEO. Its early insight was to combine two data sources most tools ignored: a full crawl of a client's website, and the server logs that record exactly how search-engine bots actually behave on it. Put together, they showed brands where crawl budget was being wasted and which pages were quietly invisible.

That machinery - unglamorous, deeply technical - became a moat. Botify grew into an enterprise platform used by more than 500 brands across 30 countries, including Marriott, Expedia, Farfetch, Macy's, Levi's, Marks & Spencer and The New York Times. It raised roughly $82 million over three rounds and moved its center of gravity from Paris to New York, where it now sits at 205 Hudson Street.

Then search changed shape. People started asking ChatGPT the questions they used to type into Google. AI shopping agents began browsing catalogs on shoppers' behalf. For a company whose whole business was making websites legible to machines, this was less an emergency than a roadmap. The same crawl-and-log foundation that optimized for Googlebot could be pointed at a new generation of readers: AI answer engines and autonomous agents.

What It Does & The Problem

The blind spots in a giant website

Large brands lose organic traffic in ways they can't see: pages search engines never crawl, content that renders too slowly for bots, and - increasingly - catalogs that AI assistants can't parse. Botify's job is to surface those blind spots at scale and then close them.

Collect

Analytics

Unifies data from every phase of search - crawlability, indexing, content quality, user behavior and organic visits - across sites with millions of pages, joined with real bot activity from server logs.

Decide

Intelligence

An AI-powered engine that turns that data into prioritized, revenue-weighted recommendations, so teams fix what actually moves traffic instead of chasing every audit flag.

Act

Activation

PageWorkers and SpeedWorkers apply fixes to live pages and speed up rendering without waiting on an engineering backlog - closing the loop from insight to change.

A dashboard that surfaces a problem is worth far less than a system that closes the loop. Insight is cheap; action is the product.
Who Uses It

The brands that treat SEO as infrastructure

Botify concentrates in retail, travel, media and marketplaces - businesses whose sites are large enough that discoverability becomes an engineering discipline. It is strongest for sites north of a million pages.

How It's Different & Where It Fits

Technical depth as a lane

In the enterprise search market, rivals like Conductor and BrightEdge lean toward content intelligence. Botify's distinguishing bet is engineering: large-scale crawling, server-log analysis and automation that scales to the biggest sites on the web.

Illustrative comparison based on published reviews (Search Engine Journal, Conductor, Siteimprove). Not a benchmark; positions reflect each tool's primary emphasis, not overall quality. Enterprise SEO platforms typically run $60k-$300k+ per year.

The moat

Crawl budget, indexation and log analysis - boring infrastructure that aged into strategic advantage the moment AI search arrived and needed the same machinery.

The trade-off

Depth is a lane, not the whole field. Botify's center of gravity is technical; content strategy and executive reporting are often paired with it, not replaced by it.

Business & Funding

Subscriptions that scale with site size

Botify sells annual enterprise subscriptions priced by website scale and modules, complemented by expert managed services. Revenue grows with the number of pages crawled and the breadth of analytics, automation and AI-visibility deployed.
