A closer he keeps proving

Bill Henderson's title at LightSpun is Strategic Advisor to the CEO. The job underneath the title is older than the company: open doors at the largest managed care organizations in America, and convince them to bet on something new. He has been doing exactly that since the 1980s.

LightSpun is the Boston startup that used to be called 32Health. It builds AI software that automates the unglamorous machinery of dental insurance: claims adjudication, benefits administration, credentialing, and provider onboarding. In September 2025 it raised a $13 million Series A. By 2026 it supported more than 175,000 providers and processed over 90% of claims automatically, cutting administrative costs roughly in half. The founders, Shaju Puthussery and Deepak Ramaswamy, build the engine. Henderson's job is to get it into the field.

His arrival was framed less as a hire and more as a verdict. "When someone who has spent 35 years building relationships with the largest managed care organizations decides this is where he wants to be, that tells you something," Puthussery said. Henderson, for his part, has heard every version of the dental-administration pitch. He has been skeptical of most of them.

What he brings is a map. Three and a half decades of relationships across Commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare payers, plus the scar tissue that comes from having sold into all of them. He leads national growth strategy and partnership expansion, which is a polite way of saying he knows whose phone to call.

Four decades of plumbing

Before LightSpun, before the AI pitch decks, there was the slow work of building distribution for products most people never think about until something on a claim goes wrong. Henderson built specialized HMOs in North Carolina and Texas. He created a dental Foster Care carve-out program in Texas, a niche product for a population that rarely gets bespoke insurance design.

He held senior-suite roles at PrimeVision and OptiCare Health Systems, where the business was credentialing verification, the NCQA-certified check that a provider is who they say they are. Earlier still, Continental Life & Health. He sat on the Executive Board of the Texas Association of Health Plans from 1994 to 2003.

The longest chapter was LIBERTY Dental Plan: about fifteen years as Senior Vice President of Business Development, growing the book from roughly 40,000 covered lives to more than 6 million across all 50 states, and sales past $900 million. Then Vheda Health in 2022, where he moved from consultant to Senior Vice President to, by September 2024, Chief Growth Officer, expanding partnerships in chronic care and maternal health for underserved populations.

Across those stops, he guided multiple organizations through acquisitions and private equity exits, delivering shareholder returns north of 50 percent. Scale is the through-line. He does it for a living.
