In the first half of 2023, Philadelphia had a cream cheese problem. The Kraft Heinz brand was losing share. On Walmart, however, a competitor’s misfortune offered an opening: an unavailable product could send a shopper looking for something else. The useful question was whether Philadelphia’s advertising would be there when that happened.
- Profitero+ monitors the digital shelf: prices, stock, search positions, content and reviews.
- Its software and services connect those observations to advertising and retail operations.
- The lesson to borrow: decide who acts on a signal before collecting more signals.
The opening in the cream cheese aisle
Philadelphia used Profitero’s Shelf Intelligent Media through Pacvue to increase budgets automatically when competitors were out of stock. Campaigns ran two hours longer on average. The published case reports 28% more new-to-brand orders, 25% higher ad-attributed sales and a 12% increase in return on ad spend.
Those are vendor-reported results from one case. Still, the mechanism is wonderfully concrete. Someone else’s missing tub became a reason to change a budget. Information about the shelf reached the system buying the advertisement while there was something useful to do with it.

A price problem, before the plus
Profitero began in Dublin in 2010. Its founders were Volodymyr Pigrukh, Dmitry Vysotski and Kanstantsin Chernysh. An early account traces the idea to Chernysh’s difficulty determining competitive prices for retail websites. The team developed a way to monitor prices across sites. That practical problem came before the sprawling commerce proposition.
By 2014, the company was raising $8 million from Polaris Partners and expanding its North American presence. Pigrukh told The Irish Times that the business had initially targeted retailers monitoring rivals, while seeing an opportunity among brand manufacturers. A retailer needs to know the other shop’s price. A manufacturer needs to know what happens to its products across many shops.
A $20 million Series B followed in 2020, led by Scaleworks with Conviction Capital participating. Publicis Groupe announced its acquisition in May 2022. In May 2025, Profitero+ arrived: the analytics business paired with Mars United’s commerce expertise, adding managed execution across media, content, operations and strategy.

Words that make a pen visible
For BIC in the UK, the issue was discoverability on Amazon. Content Optimizer identified product pages that needed additional keywords. The team prioritized terms using category search behavior, product relevance and the language used by category leaders.
Generative AI produced copy options. People selected the copy. Then the Salsify integration sent the changes to Amazon. Profitero’s case reports that average daily first-party sales rose more than 35%, while organic rankings improved by eight positions on average for those pages.
“it’s super important that syndication is easy.”
Liam Bishop · BIC, UK & Ireland
That observation from BIC’s eCommerce sales manager gets to the awkward middle of software buying. An excellent recommendation still needs to survive approval, publishing and the retailer’s systems. BIC’s workflow joined those steps. The copy had somewhere to go.

Fix the listing before buying the click
NAOS, the skincare business, faced a less glamorous obstacle while expanding in Canada. Its team spent hours resolving Amazon tickets. Slow processes delayed product launches and contributed to fulfillment problems. A product that cannot be ordered has a fairly severe conversion problem.
NAOS used Autopilot to automate manual tasks, correct product information and detect suppressed listings. The published case describes launches moving from months to days, fill rate increasing from 60% to 90%, and recovery of invoice shortages equivalent to 1.5% of total revenue.
These examples describe Profitero+’s place in the market. It serves brands managing retail relationships, with users in account management, content, category analysis and media. Digital Shelf supplies daily observations; Sales & Share estimates Amazon sales and category performance, including first-party and third-party activity. The estimates help frame decisions; they should be read as estimates.
The expensive part is the handoff
The business combines enterprise software and data services with managed services. Buyers can choose individual solutions or an integrated arrangement. Its coverage and links to Publicis commerce teams are central to the proposition. CommerceIQ, Stackline and eStoreBrands offer overlapping capabilities; retailer coverage, workflow compatibility and service requirements matter more than a feature count.
There is also a distinction between a tool and a team. A brand with its own analysts and agency may want data flowing into existing systems. Another may need help producing content, running campaigns or resolving operational cases. Profitero+ sells into both situations. Its open ecosystem includes bid-management connections and product-information integrations, so buying the analytics does not necessarily mean replacing every other platform. The work of choosing is to trace a real decision through the proposed setup: what arrives, where it goes and who is responsible when it stalls.
The official buying route starts with a demo. A useful cost discussion therefore begins with scope: retailers, markets, products, integrations and who will operate the system. The human work matters. Profitero’s careers page emphasizes measurable achievement over activity, a revealing value for a business whose output can otherwise become another dashboard.
The approach needs available inventory, usable product information and authority to change campaigns or listings. An alert cannot replenish a warehouse. A brand without those connections will have less room to act. The copyable move is modest: take one recurring problem, assign an owner, connect an action and measure what changes.
The next shopper may ask an assistant
In April 2026, Profitero+ described answer engine optimization capabilities in Content Optimizer alongside search optimization. Its October measurement framework with the Digital Shelf Institute addresses physical, digital and agentic shelves. The audience for product information is changing. The requirement to give that audience accurate, useful information remains surprisingly familiar.
That is the thread from price tracking to cream cheese to AI discovery. Look closely at the conditions around the sale. Find the detail someone can change. Then make sure the observation reaches the person, or system, that can change it.
