Freshpet had a problem that sounds implausible until you think about who was doing the looking. The pet-food brand had recognition, products, and years of information on the web. Yet its visibility in AI-generated answers disappointed expectations. Some of the material that could establish its credibility was difficult for machines to use. Review content rendered in JavaScript, Intero Digital later reported, was inaccessible to AI crawlers.
- Intero Digital combines search, advertising, Amazon, content, PR, and web specialists.
- Its AI search work pairs technical repairs with clearer, more quotable information.
- Client results make useful case studies; visibility, traffic, and sales still need separate scorecards.
There is something wonderfully mundane about that diagnosis. An established brand encounters a new technology, and part of the remedy is making existing information accessible. Before the clever campaign comes the unlocked door. Intero Digital, the agency working with Freshpet, has built a substantial part of its proposition around finding these gaps between what a business knows and what a prospective customer can discover.
01 A bigger name for a bigger job
Intero means “entire” in Italian. The name became public in January 2023, when SocialSEO announced its adoption after bringing together five additional digital agencies over 26 months. The combined business had roughly 350 employees at that announcement. Minds On brought B2B design and development expertise; Influence & Co. contributed content and PR capabilities; Streiff Marketing brought Amazon specialization.

The explanation was refreshingly practical. “We did it because our clients asked us to,” then co-CEO Greg Walthour told the Colorado Springs Gazette. A customer could otherwise find itself coordinating several suppliers, each responsible for a small part of the same commercial outcome. Consolidation offered a different arrangement: specialist disciplines working within one agency.
That is the useful way to understand Intero’s place in the market. It competes for businesses that need several kinds of marketing expertise but do not want to recruit every specialist themselves. Its customer work spans software, retail, hospitality, healthcare, and professional services. Freshpet, KitchenSupply, Mizuno, and Blackbaud appear in its case-study collection. The mix matters more than a single industry label.
Holding that collection together requires more than a common logo. Intero’s stated operating principles emphasize specialist expertise, shared responsibility, and transparency when results fall short. The claim is easy to make; a client can test it by asking whether the account team can explain how a technical change affects content priorities or advertising decisions. Coordination becomes valuable when it changes what gets done next.
02 The plumbing behind the promise
The service menu runs from SEO and paid advertising to Amazon account management, content, digital PR, branding, and websites. The business sells customized professional services. A client can bring an internal marketing team and buy additional expertise, or ask for broader execution. This makes the scope of work an important buying document: which pages change, which campaigns run, who approves them, and what counts as progress?
Intero also gives parts of its method names. InteroBOT is its proprietary website crawler. The agency says it emulates search-engine crawling to help identify technical issues. InteroBOT Nucleus maps internal links and site architecture. Think of a shop with excellent stock and confusing corridors: inspecting the corridors is a different task from improving the merchandise.
Before the clever campaign comes the unlocked door.
Intero GRO, announced in June 2024, addresses generative search. Its process moves through an audit, content planning, a prioritized strategy, implementation, and ongoing monitoring. The practical work crosses departmental boundaries: a developer improves access, an editor makes answers clearer, and a PR specialist pursues relevant external coverage. The agency’s breadth has a concrete purpose when those tasks depend on one another.
03 Famous is not the same as findable
Freshpet makes the distinction unusually clear. Intero’s work included redirect and indexation repairs, changes to page structure, FAQs, nutrition-focused content, and stronger scientific credibility signals. The objective was to help AI systems locate and interpret useful material, while keeping traditional SEO healthy. The agency also reported monitoring 475 individual prompts daily across major language models.
Agency-reported changes. Different metrics, different baselines; these are not revenue growth figures.
Store-locator visits and delivery sign-ups were examples of those key events. That makes the sequence worth studying: appearance, visit, action. Each answers a different business question. A large increase in appearances can coexist with a smaller traffic increase. The sensible response is to examine both, then ask whether the resulting actions justify the work.
04 The kitchen test
Another client arrived with a more familiar complaint. Escali, later operating under KitchenSupply, was sliding on Amazon despite having an agency. According to Intero’s account, it also lacked clear Amazon objectives. Management hesitated to end the existing relationship before year-end, then decided the deterioration required action. The initial failure was visible in marketplace performance before a new marketing plan existed.
Intero audited the account, improved content and communication, and developed a broader strategy as additional brands joined the portfolio. Its four-month snapshot reported 82.7% growth in Amazon shipped COGS and a 31.5% increase in sell-through for shipped COGS. Those are Amazon operating measures. Treating either as profit growth would obscure the story rather than explain it.
05 Buy the work. Measure the consequence.
Engagements are individually quoted. For a buyer, the practical cost question therefore starts with a written scope separating agency work, media spending, technical implementation, and measurement. A proposed program should connect each expense to a deliverable and each deliverable to a commercial question. Otherwise, a broad service menu can become a very elaborate shopping list.
The idea readers can copy is smaller than the agency: choose an important customer question, inspect the answer across discovery platforms, and trace omissions back to access, structure, or credibility. Fix a specific obstacle and measure again. This approach depends on permission to change the site, credible information to publish, and time to observe results. It cannot make a weak offer attractive or turn every citation into a customer. Intero’s most useful lesson is to inspect the distance between those two events.
