EZLynx and the cost of typing twice

A request for three insurance quotes became a business built around one stubborn problem: the same information, entered again and again.

Ben Williams thought his insurance agency was too small to need an agency management system. That is an understandable calculation. Software costs money; doing a few things yourself appears to cost nothing. But in an EZLynx customer account, Williams describes changing his mind after adopting the platform. The work he had been absorbing personally turned out to be work a system could handle. Smallness had concealed the expense.

His experience offers a useful way into EZLynx, a software business serving independent insurance agencies. Its subject is the unglamorous interval between knowing something and putting that knowledge to use: finding a client record, entering an address, chasing a lead, assembling a renewal. Repeat those intervals across a working day and you have a substantial business problem.

The short version
  • One entry can request quotes from multiple insurers.
  • The AMS carries the work through servicing and renewal.
  • The payoff depends on connected records and configured workflows.

Three quotes. Fifteen minutes.

The company traces its beginning to a coffee conversation in 2003. A friend asked Nag Rao whether an agent could get three quotes from different insurance carriers in less than 15 minutes. According to EZLynx’s account, Rao came out of retirement to tackle the question. The initial product was a comparative rater: enter the applicant’s information once and request prices from multiple insurers.

The distinction matters. An independent agent offers a customer a choice of carriers. Producing that choice can require entering the same risk information into separate carrier websites. EZLynx attacked the repetition. Its current personal-lines rater connects to a network of more than 330 carriers; the agent can then move to a carrier portal to bind and issue the policy. Network size describes available connections, rather than a promise that every applicant receives hundreds of offers.

The quote was only the beginning

A quote opens a relationship that may last years. Policies need servicing. Prospects need follow-up. Renewals arrive. Commissions must be reconciled. EZLynx expanded into an agency management system that connects these activities around client and policy records. Today its offering includes accounting, reporting, eSignature, a client portal, marketing tools and agency websites, alongside rating.

Barr Insurance supplies a particularly revealing example of what went wrong before consolidation. In the company’s published customer story, lead nurturing was spread across disconnected systems, producing duplicated effort and missed opportunities. Barr brought the work into EZLynx and automated follow-up. The failure was mundane: keeping separate tools and manual messages coordinated. That is precisely why it is interesting. An agency can lose useful attention without a single spectacular mistake.

The practical benefit is continuity. Sales Center tracks opportunities; Automation Center lets an agency specify what happens when a workflow is triggered. Retention tools help prioritize renewals, while Client Center gives policyholders a route to self-service. The operational bet is that an employee should be able to continue a customer’s story without reconstructing it from several applications.

A familiar motion, a different market

For years, personal-lines quoting supplied EZLynx’s defining use case. Its June 30, 2026 launch of Instant Commercial Quoting applies the same single-entry logic to commercial submissions. Powered by the Ivans distribution network, the capability puts real-time carrier quotes inside the application workflow. Initial coverage includes General Liability, Business Owners Policy and Workers’ Compensation.

LGE Insurance Services illustrates the intended customer: an agency with a predominantly personal-lines book that wants to expand into commercial business. Its EZLynx story describes auto-populated ACORD forms, questions that adapt to the line of business, and centralized submission tracking. The attraction is a shorter administrative path into another market. Agents still need the expertise to understand the business they are insuring; a completed form cannot supply that judgment.

The assistant needs office hours

EZLynx’s AI work follows the same preference for ordinary chores. EVA, its Virtual Assistant, can draft emails, summarize account communications and provide product guidance. The account summary draws on emails, texts and agent notes, helping someone catch up before a client conversation. Outlook integration brings summaries into the inbox. The product instructions tell agents to review and edit generated email content before sending.

There is a wonderfully practical wrinkle in the support documentation for EVA’s automated text replies. The system can sometimes misread intent and interrupt a conversation an agent is already handling. EZLynx recommends configuring business hours so the automated responder steps in after staff log off. Here is a specific limit to copy: decide when automation should remain quiet. Faster replies help less when two responders talk over each other.

This also clarifies the conditions for a successful rollout. Communication history has to be recorded where the summary can find it. Workflows need deliberate setup. Carrier availability must match the agency’s markets. Buying a connected platform gives an agency the machinery for coordination; its staff still have to establish the habits that make the records useful.

What the fewer-keystrokes business sells

EZLynx sells business software, with pricing tailored to user count and selected products and features. Network membership can bring a discount. For a buyer, the meaningful calculation includes the subscriptions the platform might replace, plus migration, training and the time needed to establish workflows. Ask for those items in the proposal, then compare the complete cost against the hours your agency actually spends on repetitive work. A useful trial follows a real customer through quoting, a service request and renewal preparation. Have the people who do those jobs test the sequence. A feature checklist says little about whether they can find the next step.

Alternatives include HawkSoft, Vertafore’s agency software and Momentum, formerly NowCerts. EZLynx’s pitch centers on its native comparative rater and the breadth of work available in one environment. Applied Epic is another option within the same corporate family: Applied Systems completed its EZLynx acquisition on March 9, 2021. EZLynx continues with its own brand and product team. A shared owner does not make the two platforms interchangeable.

By June 2026, EZLynx reported more than 37,000 agencies using its products and more than 14 million monthly home, auto and package rating transactions. Those are company-reported measures of reach and activity, rather than proof of an individual agency’s return. The more portable lesson is smaller. Find the detail your people enter twice. Follow it from quote to renewal. Measure the handoffs. That is where this company began, and where a buyer can begin evaluating it.
