The farmers' era. Rebuilding Indonesia's rice supply chain from the paddy up - one platform for financing, seed, advice and the sale.
ERATANI — the corporate mark of PT Eratani Teknologi Nusantara, the Jakarta agritech connecting smallholder rice farmers to capital, inputs and markets across Java and Sulawesi.
In much of rural Indonesia, a rice farmer rarely fails because the farming is bad. The failure comes earlier - no loan for the season, no fair price for good seed, and no reliable buyer once the grain is dry. Middlemen fill each gap, and take a cut at every step.
Eratani, founded in Jakarta in 2021, was built to close those gaps at once. It is an agritech company that gives smallholder rice farmers a single, integrated program covering the entire cycle from upstream to downstream: working capital, quality inputs, agronomic guidance, and a guaranteed route to market. The company works with more than 34,000 farmers across Java and Sulawesi and manages over 13,000 hectares of paddy.
The pitch is not a dashboard. It is the mundane plumbing of farming - financing, fertilizer, advice and offtake - stitched together so a farmer deals with one counterpart instead of five.
Indonesia feeds roughly 280 million people on rice, yet still imports it - a gap that starts with the smallholders who grow most of the crop. Their obstacles are stubbornly practical.
Capital. Banks rarely lend to a farmer with no collateral and no paperwork. Inputs. Good seed and fertilizer are expensive and hard to source. Knowledge. Agronomy advice is thin on the ground. Market. At harvest, farmers sell to whoever shows up, at whatever price is offered.
Eratani's answer is to treat these as one problem. Solve financing without inputs and the loan is wasted; provide inputs without a buyer and the harvest is stranded. Its reported 2024 results - yields up about 29% and incomes up about 25% - come from addressing the chain rather than a single link.

The core program: access to working capital, eKYC-based financing, agronomic assistance, quality inputs, planning tools and insurance - guiding a farmer across the entire growing season.
A network of agricultural kiosks and local retailer partnerships that puts seed, fertilizer and other inputs within reach of remote farms at fair, transparent prices.
A marketplace linking farmers directly to rice millers and buyers, guaranteeing offtake at competitive prices so a good harvest does not become a stranded one.
"Rather than prioritizing rapid expansion, we focus on building a strong foundation to scale strategically into key districts, ensuring long-term value for farmers."
Andrew Soeherman · Co-founder & CEO, Eratani
Eratani sits inside Indonesia's national push for food sovereignty - a government target the company has publicly aligned itself with. As policy chases self-sufficiency in rice, Eratani is one of the few players building the ground-level plumbing to get there, district by district.
Its investors reflect that thesis: an April 2025 Series A led by Clay Capital, with SBI Ven Capital, TNB Aura, AgFunder, Genting Ventures and IIX - capital deployed into paddies rather than pure software during a tight funding climate.
Eratani competes with other Indonesian and regional agritech and agri-fintech players - among them TaniHub, Crowde, iGrow and Semaai - as well as the traditional middlemen and informal lenders it aims to replace. Its wager is that owning the full cycle, and the farmer relationship, beats owning any single slice of it.
Eratani is female co-founded and led by a team that came out of Indonesia's tech and finance world before turning to agriculture. CEO Andrew Soeherman brings two decades of experience across sales, strategy and leadership at multinational firms and the country's startup scene.
That background shows in the company's stated culture: farmer-first and impact-driven, with explicit emphasis on gender inclusion and empowering women farmers - and a deliberate preference for a strong operational foundation over headline-grabbing growth.
"We remain fully committed to supporting Indonesia's food sovereignty goals."
