Company / The learning business

ELB Learning bought the toolbox.

A template business hit its ceiling. So ELB Learning started buying the tools - and built a corporate training business around what happens before, during, and after the course.

At Sennebogen, the problem looked like a calendar. Employees reserved training seats months ahead. Spreadsheets could not keep up. Administrators spent time untangling bookings, and 40 percent of those who registered did not attend. For a company that makes enormous material-handling machines, a surprisingly small administrative problem was getting in the way.

The quick read
  • ELB Learning sells training tools, custom work, and specialist talent.
  • Its portfolio connects course creation, games, VR, coaching, and delivery.
  • The useful buying question: where does your training process get stuck?

ELB Learning’s customer account describes what happened next. Sennebogen used Rockstar Learning Platform to automate enrollment. That helped with scheduling. Cancellations persisted. The team then replaced an eight-hour classroom opening day with a two-hour online prerequisite. Learners had to finish it before booking further classroom training. The account reports full attendance among those who registered after the redesign.

The revealing detail is the second intervention. A better booking system could organize demand; changing the sequence of learning addressed a different problem. ELB’s sprawling catalog becomes easier to understand when viewed through that distinction. There are many ways for workplace training to get stuck.

The templates had a ceiling

Brothers Andrew and Shawn Scivally founded eLearning Brothers in 2009 to sell reusable learning assets and templates. It was an appealingly concrete proposition: give course developers useful building blocks and spare them some repetitive production work.

By 2018, Andrew later wrote, growth had slowed as the template market saturated and larger brands built assets themselves. He became interested in owning the software behind those assets. The business began pursuing acquisitions. A deal intended for March 2020 faltered when investors withdrew during the pandemic. Record custom-course sales that month helped him persuade them to proceed.

The resulting expansion brought Trivantis and Edulence into the business in 2020, followed by The Game Agency in 2021. In February 2022, RLG Capital and Trinity Investors announced another $54 million investment, supporting the acquisitions of Rehearsal and Origin Learning and a debt recapitalization. CoreAxis followed that spring. The company adopted the ELB Learning name in May.

A course is only part of the job

Today, ELB occupies several positions in the corporate learning market. An internal design team can buy software. A stretched learning department can commission custom content or bring in instructional designers. An organization wrestling with implementation can purchase help with integration and migration. The business combines recurring subscriptions with services shaped around a client’s project.

Lectora handles interactive course authoring. MicroBuilder makes short learning modules. The Asset Library supplies reusable media. The Training Arcade puts company material into games, including licensed JEOPARDY! and Wheel of Fortune formats; Arcades adds challenges and leaderboards. Rockstar Learning Platform and CourseMill handle learning delivery and administration.

CenarioVR adds interactive 360-degree environments. A learner can explore a scene, select hotspots, and respond to questions. A headset is optional: browsers and mobile devices can display the experience. Sennebogen also used it for a virtual warehouse tour, letting customers inspect machines remotely. Here, training software doubles as a way to explain a product.

Buyers could choose Articulate 360 or Adobe Captivate for authoring, then combine other suppliers for delivery and specialist development. ELB’s distinctive proposition is the breadth of software and human expertise available from one company. That can simplify procurement. It also makes careful scoping essential: a broad catalog is useful only when its parts serve a defined need.

The manager has homework, too

Rehearsal addresses another awkward gap: employees can consume a course without practicing the conversation it describes. At automotive marketplace Edmunds, regional directors had less time for sales ride-alongs. Web training increased reach, but the company wanted sellers to demonstrate their pitches.

According to ELB’s case study, a 20-seller pilot used recorded pitches, peer viewing, and a leaderboard. Later assignments put regional directors in the coaching role. Some offered constructive feedback. Others simply approved submissions. The strongest regions received constructive coaching, a useful reminder that installing a feedback tool does not teach managers to coach.

“We now have greater confidence that training is being delivered accurately and consistently.”

Don Schmidt · Edmunds sales effectiveness

The same account reports a 102 percent sales increase for the product among participating relationship managers in the following month. Other sales roles saw smaller increases. These were different groups, and this was a supplier-published customer account. Treat the result as a reason to investigate the practice method, rather than a forecast for your own sales team.

In February 2026, ELB added AI Roleplay within Rehearsal, enabling live practice with AI avatars. Organizations can build scenarios around their scripts and product information. Evaluation uses conversation transcripts. The direction is clear: make repeated practice available when a human mentor cannot join every attempt.

Buy the bottleneck first

The price depends on how much of that portfolio a buyer needs. Published Studio starting prices list Gold Suite at $129 a month equivalent and Essentials at $879, with annual subscriptions paid upfront. That means starting annual commitments of $1,548 and $10,548 respectively. Custom development, staffing, and enterprise delivery require their own scope.

ELB says it serves 80 percent of the Fortune 100. Its markets include finance, healthcare, manufacturing, technology, and government. A Defense Acquisition University contract announced in December 2025 and a dedicated public sector team announced in May 2026 extend that footprint. David Aspinall became president and CEO on May 26, 2026.

For a buyer, the practical move is to copy the diagnostic sequence: identify the obstacle, choose a small intervention, and examine what changes. Booking, course production, and coaching are different problems. A company with an effective authoring workflow may need only one additional tool. A team without time to give useful feedback must address that constraint alongside the software. Sennebogen’s empty seats offer a good place to begin: ask why people are missing the training before making more of it.
