Doug Leone
Doug Leone is an Italian-born American venture capitalist and Chairman of Sequoia Capital, one of the most storied venture firms in Silicon Valley history. Born in Genoa on July 4, 1957, he emigrated to the US at age 11, arriving by boat unable to speak English. After stints at Sun Microsystems, HP, and Prime Computer, he joined Sequoia in 1988 under Don Valentine, rose to Global Managing Partner by 2012, and spent over three decades turning a top-tier California firm into a global empire spanning the US, China, India, and Europe. His investments include ServiceNow, Wiz (acquired by Google for $32B), Nubank, and RingCentral. Named Sequoia's Chairman in early 2026, Leone remains the embodiment of Silicon Valley's immigrant-outsider ethos — driven by what he calls 'fear, hunger, and empathy.'
