The Story

An AI company built for the questions that keep banks awake

In most of the world, artificial intelligence arrived as a consumer novelty first and a serious tool later. Mozn started at the other end. Founded in Riyadh in 2017, the company set out to build AI for high-stakes decisions - the kind a compliance officer makes at two in the morning when an alert fires, or the kind a bank makes before it lets money move. Its work is unglamorous by design: catching fraud, screening for money laundering, and reading Arabic well enough that a machine can be trusted with it.

The company operates in two lanes. The first is financial crime prevention, delivered through its flagship platform, FOCAL. The second is enterprise knowledge intelligence, delivered through OSOS, which is built on Mozn's proprietary Arabic natural-language understanding engine. Both grew from the same conviction: that the roughly two billion people who speak Arabic and related languages were being served by AI that never quite understood them, and that enterprises in the region needed software built for their regulations, their languages, and their risk.

That focus has paid off in an unusually concrete way. In its 2025 RiskTech Quadrant, the independent analyst Chartis Research named FOCAL a Category Leader in both AML Transaction Monitoring and KYC Data & Solutions - a dual distinction it awarded to only ten vendors worldwide. For a Series A company from Riyadh to appear on the same chart as global incumbents is the sort of result that makes the rest of the market look twice.

Mozn is not trying to be everything. It sells to banks, fintechs, insurers and governments, and it has served more than a hundred of them. The bet is narrow and deliberate: solve financial crime and Arabic intelligence completely, for the customers who need them most, before anyone else does.

"Mozn's solid product foundation and AI-driven approach align strongly with the challenges faced by financial institutions today."

Two platforms, one philosophy

Financial Crime Prevention

FOCAL

An AI platform built on a unified FRAML architecture - Fraud plus AML in one system. FOCAL uses agentic AI to automate data integration, accelerate risk scoring, screen customers against sanctions and watchlists, monitor transactions and streamline alert triage.

Knowledge Intelligence

OSOS

An enterprise knowledge platform powered by Arabic NLU. It turns unstructured Arabic text into structured insight - entity extraction, sentiment analysis, question answering and summarization - so organizations can actually search and reason over their own documents.

Core Technology

Arabic NLU Engine

The proprietary language technology underneath it all, built to handle the genuine complexity of Arabic. It is the reason Mozn can promise accuracy where general-purpose models tend to stumble.

What you can do with it
Screen customers at onboardingRun KYC checks against sanctions, PEP and watchlist data before an account goes live.
Catch fraud and laundering togetherOne platform flags both, so criminals can't slip through the seam between two systems.
Cut false-positive fatigueAgentic AI triages alerts so analysts spend their hours on real threats, not noise.
Understand Arabic documentsExtract entities, gauge sentiment and answer questions across unstructured Arabic text.
The Business

Where Mozn sits in the market

Mozn is a B2B enterprise-software company. It licenses FOCAL and OSOS to financial institutions and public-sector bodies, mostly across Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf, on subscription and enterprise-deployment terms. The moat is not just the technology - it is trust. Before a bank runs its most sensitive data through an outside system, it wants credentials, and Mozn carries ISO 27001 certification alongside Saudi National Cybersecurity Authority frameworks.

The competitive field is crowded with global names - Nasdaq Verafin, NICE Actimize, Feedzai, ComplyAdvantage, SAS. Mozn's edge is being Arabic-native and MENA-first: software built for the region's languages and regulators rather than adapted to them after the fact. In a market where a compliance officer's confidence is the product, that proximity matters.

Its position also lines up with a larger national story. Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 wants a knowledge economy and homegrown technology, and Mozn is a concrete instance of that ambition - AI capability that keeps money, data and talent inside the region.

The Founders

Built by people who had built before

Mozn's chairman, Dr. Khaled Al-Ghoneim, previously founded ELM - Saudi Arabia's largest technology company - and served as group CEO at Saudi Telecom. Co-founder and CEO Dr. Mohammed Alhussein joined the early ELM team back in 2002. It is a founding bench with unusual depth for a company its age.

A lean raise, put to work

In February 2022, Mozn closed a $10M Series A led by Raed Ventures, with Shorooq Partners, VentureSouq and Sukna Ventures joining. The plan was to enhance the NLU engine, expand R&D and recruit across product, engineering and data science. Ten million dollars is modest by AI standards - Mozn's answer was to turn it into more than a hundred enterprise deployments.
