The power of institutional-grade trading. Tech-driven. Designed for speed. Built for all traders.
Lime Trading Corp. - the low-latency broker that outlasted three names on the door. Photographed: the mark that traders route their orders through.
In 2000, a group of hedge fund traders ran into a simple, expensive problem. They needed volume, speed and privacy from a brokerage, and none of the firms they called could deliver all three. So they built their own. That in-house tool became Lime Brokerage, and twenty-five years later it operates as Lime Trading Corp. - a New York broker-dealer that hands independent and institutional traders the same low-latency infrastructure once reserved for the fastest players in the market.
Lime spent its first two decades serving a competitive group of financial institutions: quantitative funds, proprietary trading shops and high-frequency firms for whom microseconds carry real money. Along the way it engineered direct market access, smart order routing and colocation services designed to place client systems physically close to exchange matching engines. The numbers Lime cites tell the story of that engineering - over 20 billion shares executed cumulatively and more than 10 billion messages processed.
Then the company asked a different question: what if individual traders could access the same technology as institutional clients? That reframing defines Lime today. It positions itself in the gap between the bulge-bracket banks and the retail apps - a home for sophisticated, independent traders and developers who care less about a slick onboarding animation and more about where and when their order actually lands.
The brand has changed names more than once. Score Priority acquired Lime's technology and core team in 2020, operated it as Lime Execution, and in March 2022 unified the business under a single name: Lime Financial. The plumbing, notably, outlasted every rebrand.
Lime is a registered broker-dealer and futures commission merchant that enables clients to trade U.S. equities, options - including multi-leg options - and futures. Enhanced access comes through Lime Trader, a proprietary web-based platform, plus a mobile app, third-party front ends, and application programming interfaces. Clients interact with markets, manage trades, monitor risk and develop strategies on infrastructure built for throughput.
Sophisticated independent and professional traders, algorithmic and high-frequency developers, and institutional clients. Lime describes its base as traders who value quality execution over a consumer-grade veneer - people for whom the API, the colocation rack and the routing logic are the product, not an afterthought.
Serious traders have long faced a binary: pay bulge-bracket prices for institutional access, or accept the constraints of retail platforms. Lime targets that gap, offering direct market access, low-latency connectivity and developer tooling at a tier - Lime Trader Plus carries a stated $30,000 account minimum - aimed at people who trade for a living.
Most brokers sell a screen. Lime sells connectivity: a REST API, a Python SDK, FIX-based direct market access and colocation. Its differentiation is unglamorous and physical - the meters of cable between a client's server and an exchange, and two decades of engineering spent making latency disappear.
Institutional-grade access for high-volume and professional traders, with a stated $30,000 account minimum.
Proprietary web-based and mobile platforms for trading equities, options and futures.
Tools for automated and algorithmic trading, order management and market-data access.
Low-latency direct market access and order routing over the FIX protocol.
Real-time and high-speed market data feeds for U.S. equity and options markets.
Colocation that places client systems close to exchange matching engines for minimal latency.
Business model. Lime operates as a broker-dealer and futures commission merchant, generating revenue from trade commissions, execution and order-routing services, platform and API access, market data, and colocation and hosting fees. Its dual audience - independent professionals and institutions - lets it monetize both self-directed traders and firms that need managed connectivity.
Expertise. The firm's depth is in market microstructure and low-latency systems. Its track record includes industry recognition across a decade: Most Cutting-Edge IT Initiative (2010), Best Infrastructure/Technology Initiative and Best Systematic Trading Technology (2016), and Best New Risk Product (2017). Leadership pairs that engineering heritage with operational discipline - CEO Eva Sehic came from Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank, and President Johan Sandblom has championed Lime's execution technology for nearly two decades.
Where it fits. Lime sits in the middle band of the U.S. brokerage landscape, between the institutional desks of the largest banks and the mass-market retail apps. It competes with direct-access and API-first brokers such as Interactive Brokers, Lightspeed, DAS Trader, TradeStation and Alpaca - and leans on speed, transparency and developer access as its wedge.
Regulation. Lime Trading Corp. is a FINRA member and SIPC member registered broker-dealer, and a registered futures commission merchant and NFA member - the compliance footprint expected of a firm routing serious order flow.
