A pump, a sensor, and a small correction every five minutes. MiniMed’s long experiment is about giving people with diabetes less work to do.
Kaleido is a small, discreet, customizable insulin patch pump built by Dutch medtech company ViCentra to make living with diabetes less of a burden. Designed to look and feel like a lifestyle product rather than a clinical device, Kaleido pairs with Diabeloop's self-learning algorithm and the Dexcom CGM to enable hybrid closed-loop, app-controlled insulin delivery. With more than 3,500 users in Europe and an $85M+ Series D raised in 2025, the company is scaling manufacturing of its next-generation Kaleido 2 and preparing for entry into the United States.
Luna Diabetes (Luna Health Inc.) is a San Diego medical device company building the first automated insulin delivery system designed for the more than 90% of insulin-requiring people who dose with an insulin pen rather than a full-time pump. Its flagship product, Luna, pairs what the company calls the world's smallest insulin patch pump with a fully closed-loop algorithm to automate micro-doses of rapid-acting insulin overnight, when most of the glucose benefit from pump therapy occurs. Founded in 2020 by diabetes-industry veterans John Sjolund, Jon Brilliant and Sean Saint, the company raised a $23.6M Series A in August 2025 and is running a pivotal clinical trial using Time in Range as its primary endpoint.
John Sjölund is the CEO and co-founder of Luna Diabetes, a San Diego medical-device company building a small overnight patch pump that automates insulin dosing for the tens of millions of people who use pens rather than pumps. A Swedish-American inventor named on 30-plus patents, he previously founded Timesulin with his brother Andreas (a co-creator of Skype), sold it to Bigfoot Biomedical in 2017, then built the Bigfoot Unity connected dosing system that Abbott acquired in 2023. In August 2025 Luna raised a $23.6M Series A led by Vensana Capital.

Thomas (Tom) Arnold is the Chief Executive Officer of ViCentra, the Dutch maker of Kaleido, billed as one of the smallest, lightest and most precise insulin patch pumps in its class. Appointed in February 2025 after nearly 25 years across Medtronic, PROCEPT BioRobotics, Boston Scientific and Sorin Group, he is steering ViCentra's smartphone-controlled automated insulin delivery system into European markets and toward a US entry, backed by financing that has grown from $85M to $98M.
