The Dispatch

Reintroducing the way it used to be made

Most apparel startups buy blank shirts and print a logo on them. Sendero Provisions Co. refused - and turned that stubbornness into one of Texas's buzziest Western-meets-outdoor brands.

Sendero began in 2014 with a single hat. Co-founders Aaron Bryant and Hunter Harlow - friends from Baylor University and both trained as geologists - were taken by the wild views of Big Bend country in West Texas, and made a cap to carry the feeling home. That one product became a catalog: performance pearl snap shirts, graphic tees, denim, flannel, cowboy hats and accessories, all sold direct-to-consumer online and out of a flagship store in Waco.

The name is Spanish for "trail," and the brand reads it two ways: follow the people who came before, then cut your own path. In practice that means hand-selecting every fabric, trim, thread and color, developing original fits instead of relying on stock blanks, and wrapping it all in "funky cool art with a Western twist and maybe a silly joke or two." Sendero isn't reinventing apparel, as the founders put it - it's reintroducing people to the way it used to be made.

What it is · Who it's for

A Western wardrobe with an outdoor engine

What they do

Provisions, not merch

Western-inspired apparel and gear - performance shirts, t-shirts, hats, denim, flannel and accessories - designed around original art, custom fits and the culture of the American West.

Who buys it

The Western-outdoor crowd

Men and women who value craftsmanship, Texas and Southwest culture, and clothes that actually perform outdoors. Fans range from saddle shops to skate shops to surf stores.

The problem solved

Western that works

Classic Western style is often stiff and purely nostalgic. Sendero adds breathable performance fabric and stretch, so a pearl snap can handle a hot day's work - or a river trip.

How it's different

Why it doesn't look like anyone else

In a crowded field of Western and outdoor-lifestyle labels - names like Wrangler, Howler Brothers, Free Fly and Roark - Sendero's edge is refusal. No blank shirts. No printing on someone else's fit. The team develops its own fabrics, trims and silhouettes, then layers on art you can't find anywhere else. The result is product that reads as a point of view, not a catalog.

That point of view has proven unusually portable. Sendero's wholesale interest spans New York boutiques, Midwest skate shops, women's-exclusive stores, Western saddle shops and surf retailers - an audience that makes no sense on a spreadsheet and perfect sense as a story.

Business model & market

Bootstrapped, and building for scale

Sendero runs a hybrid model: a direct-to-consumer storefront on Shopify Plus, a flagship retail store in Waco, and a growing wholesale network reaching outdoor, boutique, Western and surf retailers. The brand notched roughly 100% year-over-year growth from 2018 without a disclosed venture round - compounding a clear identity rather than chasing hype.

As it scales, Sendero has hired deliberately, recruiting senior apparel talent from Dickies, Vans and Brixton, and naming Jenna Woodhull Chief Merchandising Officer. Its 2025 focus, per company statements, is operations, efficiency and brand marketing - pushing into outdoor retail and the fast-growing women's segment while staying true to what got it there.
