A bank statement is a peculiar kind of autobiography. It records the money, then leaves somebody else to explain it. For a self-employed mortgage applicant, a deposit might represent a customer payment, a transfer, or something that should never count toward qualifying income. Multiply that ambiguity across two years of statements. Now put a broker, a processor, and an underwriter between the paperwork and the answer.
- Prudent AI sells mortgage workflow software to lenders.
- Its Upfront suite tackles income, document preparation, and non-QM eligibility.
- The point is to surface problems before the file reaches underwriting.
- The lender keeps responsibility for the credit decision.
Prudent AI has built a business around changing that sequence. The company’s proposition is straightforward: read the documents, calculate the income, and test the relevant requirements when the file arrives. Give the people at the beginning enough information to stop sending expensive questions down the line.
The trouble starts before the underwriter
Consider Angel Oak Mortgage Solutions. In Prudent AI’s published case study, bank statement processing had been outsourced, took several hours, and allowed fraudulent applications to reach underwriting. The problem had already crossed an organizational boundary before the specialist could address it. Another handoff meant another opportunity for delay.
Angel Oak adopted automated statement analysis and lender-specific income calculations. The case study reports fourfold underwriting productivity and statement processing reduced to about 15 minutes. Those are reported customer results, rather than a forecast for every buyer. Their useful detail is the mechanism: repetitive preparation moved away from the people making the difficult judgments.
Alysse Prosnick, identified in the case as SVP of operations, points to the ability to tailor income calculations to Angel Oak’s guidelines as a reason for choosing the product. That is a revealing purchasing criterion. Mortgage software has to accommodate the rules of the institution buying it. Reading the digits is only part of the assignment.
Three jobs at the front door
The current product family makes the sequencing argument explicit. Upfront Income analyzes income documents and supports adjustments under different loan guidelines. A lender can work with wage earners, self-employed applicants, and rental income inside the same product, rather than treating every borrower variation as a separate spreadsheet exercise.
Upfront Index handles the file’s physical disorder: classification, indexing, and stacking documents in the lender’s preferred order. It also checks minimum submission requirements at intake. An absent asset statement is a small omission with a long shadow if nobody asks for it until a later review.
Upfront AUS tests non-QM scenarios against lender and investor guidelines. Non-QM lending serves cases outside the standard qualified-mortgage framework; Prudent AI’s product is aimed at checking eligibility earlier in that process. Income calculation, document readiness, and eligibility are related jobs. Doing one quickly offers limited relief if the others remain in a queue.
The Upfront sequence → lender review and decision
The callback is part of the cost
Newfi offers another clue. Prudent AI’s customer material describes bank statement analysis embedded in Newfi’s own broker portal, with results available on demand. The broker can obtain an answer without waiting for a sales executive to become available. That changes who can move the file forward.
Here, the distinction between processing time and elapsed time matters. A task might require only a short review and still take days to return. Put the answer inside the screen where the request began, and a whole conversation can disappear. The software’s integration is part of its operational value.
American Heritage Lending’s case study makes a similar argument through pre-approval: two to three hours before adoption, about 15 minutes afterward. Its testimonial praises both the speed of communicating with clients and the ease of use. A tool that staff can navigate has a better chance of changing the workflow described in the sales presentation.

A risk background, a broader file
Co-founders Jayendran GS and Srikanth Rajaraman describe a background in Big Four work, bank audits, and risk systems. Their account of the company’s origin centers on uncertain information entering a process and causing trouble later. That explains the emphasis on traceability as well as speed: a useful income number needs a defensible route back to its documents.

The scope has widened. An October 2025 announcement introduced integration with Fannie Mae’s Income Calculator. In March 2026, Prudent AI announced automated rental-income analysis, including work involving Schedule E and Form 8825. In August, eRESI announced access to Upfront Income for its non-delegated correspondent sellers. These additions bring the same intake idea to more documents and distribution channels.
The same bottleneck appears outside mortgages. In Prudent AI’s BHB Funding case, manual bank statement reviews could take four hours per application. The merchant cash advance provider reported a 50 percent increase in daily application capacity after adoption. It is a different lending business with a familiar constraint: when document review consumes the day, staff have less time to evaluate the business asking for money.
Copy the sequence
Prudent AI occupies a busy market. Ocrolus also sells mortgage document automation, income calculations, and fraud detection. Prudent AI’s specific pitch combines those income tasks with lender-configured preparation and non-QM eligibility at intake. Buyers should compare the workflows and guidelines they actually need, rather than treating “AI” as a useful purchasing specification.
The business is enterprise software for lenders and authorized financial businesses. The economics depend on implementation, review effort, and the volume of suitable files moving through. A faster income calculation cannot supply a missing document or turn an unsuitable application into a sound loan.
Prudent AI’s terms leave the lender responsible for validating outputs and making the final decision. The practical lesson travels beyond mortgages: check prerequisites before scarce specialists begin, put answers where colleagues can use them, and measure the entire wait. The question worth asking is how much uncertainty reaches the next desk.
