COMPANY PROFILE / HEALTHCARE SOFTWARE

Inovaare wants the audit to be a non-event

A health plan can resolve a complaint and still struggle to prove it did the right thing. Inovaare connects the case, the rule and the evidence - then offers to run the operation, too.

The awkward thing about a well-handled complaint is that, months later, somebody may ask you to prove it. The member has an answer. The case is closed. Somewhere, however, the deadline lives in a spreadsheet, the supporting correspondence lives in an inbox, and the explanation lives in the head of someone who has since changed jobs. An auditor would prefer a less adventurous filing system.

THE STORY IN 30 SECONDS
  • The customer: U.S. health plans managing Medicare Advantage, Medicaid and commercial business.
  • The product: connected compliance workflows, validated audit data and AI assistance.
  • The twist: Inovaare also supplies teams to operate member services, appeals and provider disputes.
  • The useful lesson: build the evidence while doing the work.

That is the territory occupied by Inovaare. It sells software for the administrative life of health insurance: complaints, appeals, regulatory changes, delegated vendors and the records that make an audit possible. Its central proposition is that these activities should share a history. If a complaint exposes a recurring problem, the trail ought to continue into an investigation, a corrective action and, where necessary, a changed policy.

It is an appealingly unfashionable problem. Much of the conversation about healthcare technology concerns what happens in the consulting room. Inovaare works in the machinery around it, where a missed handoff can become an expensive mistake and a tidy dashboard is useful only if the underlying record holds together.

The expensive part is the handoff

Consider the managed vision care company in Inovaare’s 2024 BPaaS case study. The customer, unnamed in that document, served more than 41 million members. Its appeals and grievances operation faced uneven case volumes, manual workflows, gaps in staff expertise and difficulty meeting the turnaround times required by contracting health plans. Coordination with providers and members was another problem.

The intervention had several parts. Inovaare implemented its Health Plan Cloud Platform and appeals software, integrated them with the customer’s existing systems, added staff with health plan experience and provided round-the-clock support. The software also brought compliance validation into the workflow. This was an operating arrangement, with technology and people working together.

Reported in Inovaare’s 2024 case study. One engagement; not a forecast for another plan.

The reported results were substantial: a 47% reduction in total cost of ownership, 28% of workforce resources reallocated to higher-value tasks, and 18,000 backlogged cases resolved. The document also reports better stakeholder coordination and member satisfaction. Those numbers describe this engagement; they do not establish that software alone produced the savings.

For a buyer, that distinction matters. A faster application can help someone work through a queue. Specialist staff, clearer responsibilities and support outside office hours can change how the queue behaves. Inovaare’s case combines all of them. The useful unit of analysis is the whole operation.

A universe that fits in a file

One of Inovaare’s more distinctive products has a wonderfully grand name: Universe Management. An audit universe is, more prosaically, a structured dataset. It gives an auditor a population of records to examine. The grandeur quickly disappears when fields are missing, formats differ or the records do not satisfy the required validation rules.

Inovaare separates this work into generation, scrubbing and aggregation. Generation creates the required universe from source data. Scrubbing checks it against regulatory logic and flags errors. Aggregation brings files together. A plan needs clean, consistent data beneath the export button; pressing it more confidently will not improve the file.

The paperwork gets a memory. A simplified view of the workflow Inovaare describes.

The surrounding product range gives that dataset a context. Appeals & Grievances manages intake, routing and timelines. Audit Management organizes evidence, findings and corrective actions. Delegation Oversight tracks outside organizations and their obligations. Part C & D Reporting handles regulatory reporting data. Provider Disputes connects a disagreement with the relevant claim and its documentation.

Regulatory Compliance deals with another kind of incoming material: federal, state and CMS updates, including Health Plan Management System memos. Tracking an update is the beginning. Someone still has to determine its relevance, assign the work and follow the resulting policy changes. The platform’s argument rests on linking those steps.

The chatbot has a supervisor

Pravat Rout founded Inovaare in 2006. The current leadership biographies also identify Mohar Mishra, Vipul Sanghvi and Lakshmi Narasiman as co-founders. The company’s regulatory expertise includes Chief Compliance Officer Brenda Wade, whose earlier career included Humana and MD Care. In this market, knowing how the work is performed is part of knowing what to build.

Inovaare announced Usher, its generative AI compliance assistant, in 2023. Usher 2.0 followed in February 2024, with HPMS memo analysis, search across policies and procedures, a Medicare-guidelines chatbot and assistance analyzing CMS universe data. These are specific administrative jobs, which makes the product easier to understand than the phrase “AI-powered healthcare.”

Today, Usher supplies intelligence within Health Cloud. AI Agent Studio adds pre-built and configurable agents for tasks such as intake classification, regulatory tracking and audit preparation. The company describes human review, approval gates and escalation paths for critical decisions. The intended arrangement gives staff prepared material and a governed workflow in which to act on it.

“Our CPE audit results were excellent, and we had no findings.”

This is also where governance becomes a product feature. Role-based access, version control and audit trails determine who can act, what changed and what survives for review. Inovaare describes its platform as HIPAA-compliant and HITRUST-certified. Those controls belong in an evaluation alongside the assistant’s ability to produce a convincing answer.

Software, people and one line of accountability

Inovaare sits between enterprise compliance software and payer operations services. A health plan can configure a general GRC platform, assemble separate applications or keep familiar spreadsheets and inboxes. Inovaare’s competitive claim is that payer-specific rules and connected workflows reduce the work of fitting those pieces together. Its low-code tools let business teams configure processes while IT retains control of security and access.

The commercial model follows that design: modular SaaS licensing, implementation and consulting, with managed services available. Plans can begin with one workflow and expand. The official company page describes more than 30 health plan customers; published testimonials include Doctors Healthcare Plans, Elevance Health and Priority Health.

In June 2026, Inovaare expanded its Business Process as a Service offering. It directly operates Member Services, Appeals & Grievances and Provider Disputes using its own teams on Health Cloud. Claims, utilization management and care management sit in a partner-extended scope. That division tells a buyer where Inovaare owns delivery and where another organization performs it.

The company’s ecosystem includes UST HealthProof, MongoDB, Myridius and Medecision, among others. Its engineering and delivery footprint includes India: a larger Bengaluru office opened in January 2024, building on a presence established in 2011. The market focus remains U.S. payer operations.

Borrow the method before buying the platform

The transferable idea is simple enough to try before a procurement meeting. Pick one recurring workflow. Trace it from intake to closure. Mark every point where somebody copies information, waits for another team or reconstructs a decision. Give each handoff an owner. Decide what evidence should exist when the case closes.

Then establish a baseline: handling time, exceptions, rework and the effort required to prepare the record for review. A pilot should test those measures, including how often people correct the AI. Inovaare’s published outcome ranges acknowledge that results vary with case mix, data volume and process maturity. Savings depend on the operation being measured.

That approach requires accessible source data, agreed responsibilities and qualified reviewers. Where those are weak, faster routing can simply move an incomplete case along more quickly. The buyer’s question is whether the entire record becomes easier to trust. For a company selling audit readiness, that is an admirably testable proposition.
