The Story

A boring problem, solved end to end

HealthMetrics started with an unglamorous observation: companies weren't connected to their healthcare providers. Employee medical benefits moved by fax, spreadsheet and phone call - and nobody could see where the money went.

Founded in Subang Jaya in 2015 by Alvin Yuan and Advent Phang, HealthMetrics is a cloud-based platform and digital third-party administrator (TPA) for corporate healthcare. It sits between three groups that historically struggled to talk to each other efficiently: employers who pay for benefits, insurers who underwrite them, and the clinics and hospitals that deliver care.

The platform automates the tedious machinery of employee health benefits - eligibility, claims, provider settlement, reporting - and puts it on a single dashboard. Employers get real-time visibility into spending. Employees get a mobile app to find providers, track claims and access support. Insurers get cleaner administration and fewer leaks.

Yuan, who holds a pharmacy degree but never practiced, spent a decade in healthcare financing before building the company. That background shaped the pitch: this is less about reinventing medicine and more about fixing the accounting and plumbing around it.

The timing helped. Southeast Asia's healthcare spending has been projected to climb sharply - Yuan has cited a near 75% rise, from roughly US$425 billion toward US$740 billion. When a cost is rising that fast, visibility becomes the first form of control, and that is precisely what HealthMetrics sells.

How It Works

Business model & market fit

HealthMetrics runs a B2B model that blends SaaS with digital administration. It earns through platform fees from corporate clients and insurers, and by administering and settling claims across its provider network. The economics improve as more employers, insurers and clinics join - each new participant makes the network more useful and the data richer.

Its differentiation is integration. Traditional third-party administrators lean on manual processes; in-house insurer teams handle admin as overhead; HR-benefits software rarely touches claims settlement. HealthMetrics stitches the whole chain together digitally, from employee eligibility to provider payment, in the markets it serves.

Competitors include other regional digital TPAs such as CarePay International, conventional administrators, and HR-tech benefits tools. HealthMetrics' edge is its combination of a large provider network, cross-border reach and end-to-end automation rather than a single feature.

The expansion strategy is deliberate: buy local expertise instead of parachuting in. HealthMetrics acquired Across Asia Assist Indonesia in 2022 and, in 2025, rebranded it to HealthMetrics Indonesia - anchoring its digital TPA foundation with on-the-ground knowledge, and setting a target of exceeding US$1 billion in cumulative medical treatments facilitated.
