GOLDEX GLOBAL

The company that shrank a pawnshop, an assay lab and a cashier into a single steel box - and taught it to buy your gold.

The Story

A Vending Machine for the World's Idle Gold

FILED UNDER FINTECH · HARDWARE · PRECIOUS METALS  |  A YESPRESS COMPANY PROFILE

Walk into a pawnshop with an old gold chain and you begin a small ritual: the counter, the loupe, the haggle, and the quiet suspicion that you left money on the table. GOLDEX GLOBAL was built to delete that ritual. The company makes what it calls the world's first mass-produced ATM for gold - a self-service terminal that weighs, x-rays and prices your jewellery, then pays you, usually to a bank card, in about five minutes.

The premise is almost boring in its practicality, which is the point. There is a staggering amount of gold already sitting in the world's drawers - roughly 96,000 tons of jewellery, by the company's estimate - and only a sliver of it, around 1.77%, ever gets recycled. GOLDEX reframes that stockpile as an "intracity mine": the ore is already here, distributed across households, waiting for an easy way out. The Goldomat is that way out.

Behind the simplicity is genuinely hard engineering. Each unit is wrapped in 3mm steel, carries a double vault, and is watched by video monitoring and an alarm. Inside, the appraisal runs three ways at once - an x-ray spectral assay to read composition, air-and-water (hydrostatic) weighing, and a density measurement - so that no single method has to be trusted alone. The result, the company says, is a verified purity reading in roughly three minutes, with none of the destructive testing that scrap buyers traditionally rely on. Your ring goes in whole and comes back out whole, whether you sell it or not.

My passion is gold. My vision - a Gold Exchange Robot: a gold ATM to buy, sell and pawn gold items.

What It Solves

Three Frictions, One Box

GOLDEX's pitch is less about inventing a new market than about removing friction from a very old one. The company targets three problems at once: the trust gap in cash-for-gold transactions, where customers can't verify they're being paid fairly; the cost and labour of running a staffed gold counter with a trained appraiser; and the accessibility problem, where selling or buying physical gold means finding a shop, in hours, with a person behind the glass.

For the seller

Instant, checkable value

Multi-stage assay quotes a price from live market rates. Money lands on a bank card in minutes - no negotiation, no melting, no waiting on a human.

For the operator

An unmanned counter

The machine is the appraiser, cashier and vault in one. A ~1 m² footprint in high-traffic locations with a stated payback near 14 months.

For the market

Recycling the "urban mine"

By making resale effortless, GOLDEX aims to move the 98% of jewellery that never gets recycled back into circulation.

For the investor-buyer

Gold on demand

A vending line dispenses encapsulated investment bars and coins - buying gold becomes as simple as buying a snack.

Business Model & Market

Where GOLDEX Fits

The revenue logic mirrors a gold dealer's, minus the staff. GOLDEX earns on the spread between the buy and sell price of metal, on service and storage fees, on sales of investment bars and coins, and on software and licensing for operators running its network. Machines are sold and deployed to partners - pawnshops, jewellers, banks, retailers - and also run directly, with a licensing and joint-venture model designed for fast geographic spread.

That places GOLDEX at an unusual intersection. Its direct rivals are the analogue incumbents: traditional pawnshops, cash-for-gold chains and jewellers' buy-back counters, all of which depend on human appraisers and storefront hours. Its ambition, though, points at the digital-gold and tokenization set - the platforms trying to make bullion tradable online. GOLDEX's wager is that owning the physical on-ramp, the box people actually feed their gold into, is the defensible position that pure-software competitors can't easily copy.

We are creating a seamless interface between physical precious metals and digital finance.
