Nitrode is a San Francisco AI research company building the evaluation, data, and post-training layer for game development. It started in Y Combinator's Winter 2025 batch as a Godot-based AI game engine that let anyone prototype a 3D game in a day, then pivoted toward frontier research: it runs GameEngineBench, a benchmark that scores how well AI models handle real game-engine coding tasks, and produces expert-labeled datasets and reinforcement-learning environments (including Unreal Engine 5) for AI labs and enterprises. Nitrode's bet is that game development will be handled by systems of specialized models working together, not one general-purpose model.
Jabali is a generative-AI game engine that lets people build and publish playable 2D and 3D games by describing them in plain language, no coding required. Founded in 2023 by former Meta, Amazon, Zynga and Microsoft gaming executives alongside AI researchers, the company wants to do for game creation what ChatGPT did for writing. It raised a $5M seed round led by BITKRAFT Ventures with Sony Innovation Fund and Sapphire Sport participating, and opened its Jabali Studio platform in early access in October 2025.
Roblox is an online platform and game-creation system where users build, publish, and play 3D experiences made by other users. Rather than producing its own games, Roblox provides the engine (Roblox Studio), hosting, social layer, and a virtual currency (Robux) that lets a global community of creators turn ideas into playable worlds - and, increasingly, into income. With roughly 132 million daily active users and more than $1 billion paid out to creators in a single year, it has become one of the largest user-generated entertainment platforms in the world.
