The company that gave us Mad Men and Breaking Bad dropped "Networks" from its name in 2026. The bet behind the rebrand: stop being something for everyone, and start being everything to someone.
Aerogen Systems is an Ann Arbor deep-tech startup building point-of-use contamination control for semiconductor fabs. Its modules sit inside wafer storage and process tools, continuously capturing and chemically destroying airborne acids and organic contaminants before they reach the wafer - clawing back yield lost to queue-time contamination that conventional cleanroom AMC systems miss. The company spun out of University of Michigan aerospace research and joined Y Combinator's Summer 2026 batch.
ValueMate is a Y Combinator (X25) startup rebuilding the residential real estate appraisal stack around AI. Its smartphone app uses LiDAR to capture a property in a roughly three-to-five minute walkthrough, generating a 3D model, 2D floor plans and a near-final, regulator-ready appraisal report that complies with the new UAD 3.6 and ANSI standards. The company says it makes appraisers about 80% more efficient, cutting turnaround from days or weeks to hours, and also runs its own in-house appraisal firm, VM Appraisals.
Dr. Jiayuan Fang is the Founder and CEO of Afficient Academy, a Silicon Valley edtech company that uses patented AI-driven adaptive learning to help K-12 students advance a full grade level in 2-5 months. A former UC Berkeley PhD and electrical engineering professor turned serial entrepreneur, Fang previously founded Sigrity Inc., which was acquired by Cadence Design Systems for approximately $80 million in 2012. His pivot to education was sparked by his own three children's experience with inadequate after-school tutoring - leading him to build a platform that identifies not just what students get wrong, but why.
