The Software That Turns a Consultant's Advice Into Code

Pointerpro is an all-in-one platform to create attractive online assessments and automatically deliver personalized advice reports in PDF or .ppt. Now with optional AI enhancement.

In 2012, Stefan Debois wanted to throw a good birthday party. He was working a corporate software job in Belgium and, for his daughter's birthday, he built a quiz app on an iPad. The kids liked it. Then teachers wanted it for their classrooms. Then AT&T used it at an HR event. Somewhere between the party and the enterprise, Debois realized the toy was a business.

That business is now Pointerpro, an Antwerp-based software company that most people outside professional services have never heard of, and that a growing list of consultants, coaches and HR teams cannot imagine working without. Its job is deceptively narrow: help an expert build an online assessment, and the moment someone finishes it, hand them a personalized advice report - branded, formatted, and ready to send - in PDF or PowerPoint.

The narrowness is the point. Plenty of tools collect answers. Pointerpro is built around what happens after the last question.

The ideaAdvice, minus the busywork

Ask a consultant where their time goes and you will hear a familiar complaint: the diagnosis is the easy part. The grind is writing it up. The same maturity scan, the same scoring, the same twelve-page report with the client's logo swapped in - over and over. It does not scale, because a consultancy grows only as fast as it can hire people to write reports.

Pointerpro's pitch is to delete that step. An expert encodes their methodology once - the questions, the scoring logic, the recommendations that follow from each result - and the software produces the write-up automatically for every respondent after that. Debois describes the goal as helping firms "grow their business faster than their headcount."

"By digitising repetitive tasks, consultants can focus on more challenging tasks where the human touch is indispensable." Stefan Debois, Founder & CEO

It is a quietly clever framing. Pointerpro is not selling the replacement of consultants. It is selling the deletion of their least favorite hours.

The problem it targets is specific and, once named, obvious. Expertise does not travel well. A seasoned advisor can diagnose a company's marketing maturity or a leadership team's blind spots in an afternoon, but that judgment lives in one head and moves at the speed of that person's calendar. The knowledge is valuable precisely because it is scarce - and scarcity is exactly what caps the business. Pointerpro's answer is to let the expert bottle the judgment once and pour it out unlimited times, without the quality drifting between the first client of the year and the fiftieth.

How it worksFrom questionnaire to report

The platform breaks into four parts, and they run in sequence.

First is the Questionnaire Builder, a drag-and-drop editor for interactive assessments, quizzes and surveys, with the branching logic and scoring that turn raw answers into a result. Second is the Report Builder - marketed as ReportR - which the company calls the only assessment maker that generates a personalized PDF the instant a respondent finishes. Report widgets, show-and-hide rules tied to scores, custom CSS for branding, and a PowerPoint export for consultants who want to keep editing by hand.

Third is the Distribution Portal, for sending assessments at scale with unique respondent links and email campaigns. Fourth is the Dashboard Builder, which rolls individual results into aggregate views across more than 50 charts and widgets, with benchmarking between respondents. A consultant can run one client through a scan, or a whole industry, and read both.

The AI questionOptional, on purpose

In 2023, when every software company was racing to bolt a chatbot onto its homepage, Pointerpro did something more restrained. It added an AI prompt widget - but as an option, sitting on top of logic that stays deterministic. The scoring and the core recommendations still run on rules the consultant defined. The AI adds narrative texture, grounded in the assessment's structure and the expert's prompt presets.

That distinction matters to the buyer. A consultant putting their name on a report does not want a model's best guess about a client's business. They want advice they can defend, with AI making it read better rather than deciding what it says.

It is a small design decision that reveals how Pointerpro reads its market. The company is not chasing the AI-novelty crowd; it is serving people whose reputations ride on being right. For them, a report that is 95 percent predictable and 5 percent polished beats one that is dazzling and occasionally wrong. Restraint, in this corner of software, is a feature you can charge for.

Who it is forThe people building the assessments

Pointerpro's user is rarely a developer. It is a consultant who wants a lead-generation scorecard on their website, an HR manager running a 360-degree review, a coach measuring a client's progress, or a marketer building an interactive quiz that ends in a tailored recommendation instead of a thank-you page. The company's own list of use cases reads like a tour of professional services: maturity assessments, personality tests, competency quizzes, self-assessments, even quote calculators.

What unites them is a person with deep domain knowledge and shallow patience for software. Pointerpro's design principle - that low-tech users should be able to build high-tech tools - is aimed squarely at that person. The drag-and-drop builder, the templates, the native integrations plus Zapier and an API for the ambitious: all of it exists so the expert never has to hand their methodology to an engineering team and wait a quarter to see it live. It is also ISO 27001 certified, which is less exciting to write about and more decisive than it sounds when the buyer is a bank or a pharmaceutical company vetting a vendor.

Advisory clients want reliable advice, not a chatbot's improvisation. Pointerpro kept the logic in charge and let AI handle the prose.

The fieldWhere Pointerpro sits

Say "online form" and most people picture Typeform or SurveyMonkey. Those tools are excellent at collecting answers and stopping there. Pointerpro competes in an adjacent lane, closer to Outgrow, involve.me and ScoreApp, where the assessment is a means to a personalized outcome. Its wedge is the report - the part rivals treat as an add-on, Pointerpro treats as the product.

The whole ballgame is row three. Everyone collects answers. Pointerpro is built for what the respondent walks away with.

The customers reflect that positioning. The roster runs from solo consultants and coaches to names like Deloitte, Meta, Uber, AstraZeneca, Capgemini, Manpower and Johnson & Johnson - organizations that either advise others for a living or run enough internal assessments to want them automated.

The long roadSeven years to fit

Pointerpro's origin story is charming, but the middle chapter is the instructive one. For roughly seven years the company - then called Survey Anyplace - tested niche after niche without a clean product-market fit. What finally clicked was not a founder's flash of insight. It was a pattern in the support inbox: customers kept asking for a personalized PDF report at the end of their survey. Debois built it, leaned in, and around 2019 the company stopped being generic survey software and became an assessment platform.

The rename followed the reality. In 2022, Survey Anyplace became Pointerpro, a name meant to point at the value it now delivered - professional, customized advice rather than raw data collection. Renaming a working brand after a decade is a genuine risk; the company judged its old name a ceiling.

A slow burn, not a rocket. Twelve years from birthday quiz to a 29-person business serving more than 1,500 companies.

The businessLean by design

Pointerpro runs as a B2B SaaS subscription, with tiers that climb from assessment-only plans up to the ReportR and Enterprise levels that unlock the report builder, distribution portal, dashboards and white-labeling. The economics are notable for what they lack: no mega-round, no blitzscaling. In 2023 the company raised €950,000 in debt financing from PMV, the Flemish investment company, earmarked for international expansion. By 2024 it reported roughly $3.4M in revenue on a team of about 29 - and three appearances in Deloitte's Fast 50 ranking of the fastest-growing Belgian tech firms.

It is a capital-efficient shape that European B2B software does well and rarely gets celebrated for: a focused team, a specific buyer, and a product that earns its keep without a growth-at-all-costs story.

"Turning your expertise into a tool that gives the same advice as you would." Pointerpro

Which returns to the party. The through-line from a birthday iPad quiz to AstraZeneca is not the technology - it is the same instinct Debois had in 2012: take something a person does by hand and let a screen do it, so the moment lands the same way every time. For a kid, that was a quiz. For a consultant, it is the advice they would have given anyway - now arriving the second the client hits submit.
