The Story

The back office, rebuilt for the cloud

In 2015, few believed Indonesia's small and medium businesses would pay for cloud software. A decade later, roughly 300,000 of them run their operations on Mekari.

Mekari is Indonesia's leading business software company. It does not sell a single flashy app - it sells the connective tissue that keeps a company running: hiring and payroll, bookkeeping and tax, customer relationships, expenses, and legally binding digital contracts. All of it lives in one ecosystem, where a lead captured in the CRM can become an invoice in the accounting ledger and a signed contract, without leaving the platform.

The company began in 2015 as an HR product founded by Suwandi Soh, built on a simple thesis: software-as-a-service would be the growth engine for Indonesia's millions of SMBs. The pivotal moment came in April 2019, when four separate brands - Sleekr, Talenta, Jurnal and Klikpajak - merged under one name. Jurnal's CEO Daniel Witono became Chief Product Officer; its COO Anthony Kosasih took the same role at the combined company.

That merger set the strategy. Rather than compete as point solutions, the products became modules of a single system. Customers who came for payroll stayed for accounting; those who came for accounting added CRM. The result is a business that reportedly grew its recurring revenue roughly elevenfold in four years, reaching an estimated $97.5M in annual revenue and a valuation near $292M by 2024.

Its customers span the economy - retail, manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, professional services and technology - from small firms to large enterprises. What unites them is a need Mekari understood early: Indonesian businesses wanted tools built for Indonesian rules, in the Indonesian market, that actually talked to one another.

"We built Mekari to simplify business operations, so leaders can focus on growth, innovation, and people."

What It Does

One login for the whole operation

The Problem

Tools that don't talk

A growing business typically stitches together a spreadsheet for payroll, a separate accounting package, a messaging inbox for customers, and paper for contracts. Data gets re-keyed, mistakes multiply, and no one has a single view.

Mekari's answer is integration by design: one data layer beneath HR, finance, sales and operations, so information flows instead of being copied.

The Edge

Why local depth beats global scale

Global suites like SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Zoho, Salesforce and Workday compete at the enterprise end; regional and local tools such as HashMicro, GreatDay HR and Deskera fight for SMBs. Mekari's position sits in between - broad enough to be an ecosystem, local enough to fit Indonesian rules out of the box.

That local fluency is the moat. Mekari Sign issues Indonesia's e-Meterai digital stamp duty. Talenta computes Indonesian payroll tax. Qontak is built around WhatsApp, the dominant customer channel in the market. These are the details global tools rarely localize - and the reason customers stay.

  • One integrated data layer across HR, finance and sales
  • Built for Indonesian tax, benefits and compliance
  • WhatsApp-first customer engagement via Meta partnership
  • Land-and-expand: add modules as you grow

Business Model & Expertise

How Mekari makes money

Mekari runs a B2B SaaS subscription model - per-user and tiered plans across the suite. Growth comes from two directions: expanding seats as customers scale, and cross-selling additional modules within one ecosystem. Add-on financial and benefits products (like Flex's earned wage access) and partner integrations broaden the revenue base.

Its expertise is deepest where the work is least visible: the payroll run, the tax filing, the reconciliation, the reimbursement approval. That is precisely the operational plumbing small teams have the least time for - and the reason retention compounds once a business is fully onboard.

"SaaS is the growth engine for Indonesia's millions of SMBs."
