Twenty-seven years is a respectable age for a business relationship. It is also ample time to become accustomed to its inconveniences. Grunder Landscaping had stayed with its payroll provider for that long before moving to Inova. The interesting part of the change was what happened around the paycheck.
- Payroll, HR, benefits, and time tracking share an employee record.
- Integrations connect that record to the systems running the business.
- Dedicated support and optional HR services handle work a dashboard leaves behind.
- Pricing is customized; the current company sits within UKG.
Twenty-seven years is a long time to keep typing
In Inova’s published case study, Grunder’s president and COO, Seth Pflum, describes delayed reporting, repeated data entry, and frustrating support. The landscaping company adopted Aspire in 2020. Once comfortable with that operating software, it added Inova to connect payroll. Switching meant transferring deductions, earnings, benefits, and other records. Familiarity had finally become less valuable than a cleaner workflow.
“With Inova, we work with the same team”Seth Pflum · President & COO, Grunder Landscaping
Pflum reports that removing manual hours entry saved managers one to two hours a day. That is a customer’s account, published by the provider, rather than a forecast for every purchaser. Still, it points to a sensible place to look for value: the work done twice.
Manager time saved by removing manual hours entry in the integrated workflow.
A company may buy excellent software and still employ someone to carry information between its excellent pieces. The spreadsheet becomes the unofficial employee of the month. Inova’s proposition is particularly interesting to the employer who would prefer to retire that employee.

The person behind the paycheck
Farsheed Ferdowsi founded Inova in 2011 around a complaint that remains wonderfully unfashionable: clients wanted personal service. The company’s account of its origins emphasizes designated support teams and relationships in which people know one another by name. This is an operating promise with a practical implication. A familiar representative can bring context to the next question.
In payroll, context is valuable. A business has its own pay rules, timing, people, and exceptions. Explaining those arrangements again during a problem consumes attention precisely when attention is scarce. Inova makes continuity part of what it sells. Its stated culture connects accurate, timely work with strong relationships and a positive environment for staff working in offices or remotely.
The pitch will appeal to buyers who regard support as part of the product. It also invites a concrete buying question: who owns the relationship after implementation, and how does that team handle an urgent correction? A pleasant sales conversation is a poor substitute for an answer.
One record, several jobs
Inova belongs to the human capital management market, whose dignified name covers a rather busy collection of chores. Its payroll offering supports multistate and multiple-employer-identification-number arrangements, tax filing, garnishment handling, and accounting connections. The organizing idea is a single employee record across the system. A change should travel with the person whose pay it affects.
That architecture matters to employers with more than a simple salary run. A payroll team may need to correct an entry, see the recalculation, and retain a change history. Inova advertises preparation checklists, audit reporting, and test environments. Those are useful capabilities to demonstrate with an employer’s actual exceptions, rather than admiring from a distance.
Recruiting begins the journey earlier. Inova’s tools include applicant tracking, resume parsing, candidate communication, and preboarding. New hires can complete adaptable checklists, while administrators see what remains unfinished. The attraction is continuity from applicant to employee: fewer scattered forms and fewer occasions to ask someone for information already supplied.
Time and labor management adds the next set of movements. Employees can record hours, request leave, and access schedules through web or mobile options. Managers can approve time and configure workflows. The platform offers several clock methods, including options for groups starting a shift together. For frontline employers, these details are the daily transaction layer of HR.

The wider suite includes learning management, employee engagement, and reporting. A sensible employer will choose modules against actual work: a recurring training requirement, an unfinished onboarding checklist, a report that takes too long to assemble. A long feature menu is most useful when someone knows what to order.
The important work happens between systems
“All in one” sounds reassuring until a business mentions the software it already uses. A hotel has accounting arrangements. A field-service operator has a job-management system. Neither exists merely to decorate the payroll database. Inova’s integration partnerships acknowledge that employers have reasons to keep specialized tools.
ServiceTitan and its portfolio companies Aspire and FieldRoutes bring the field-services connection. M3 brings a hotel-focused relationship involving Accounting Core and Time Management. Acumatica connects financial and employee information, including job-costing and general-ledger processes. Sage Intacct’s automated integration is advertised as free for mutual clients, a specific condition rather than a promise that everything comes without charge.
Exact data flows depend on the chosen integration and configuration.
Inova’s directory also advertises connections to more than 600 benefit carriers. That breadth suggests a substantial connection business alongside payroll processing. But the meaningful unit is the particular transfer: which fields move, in which direction, and under whose supervision? An API is an entrance. It still needs to lead to the correct room.
Buy the work around the software
Inova’s business model extends into services surrounding the application. HR Assist offers help with onboarding, offboarding, employee records, benefits changes, and compliance administration. Published examples include maintaining electronic personnel files, setting up self-service access, and managing new-hire reporting. Gold and Platinum service levels make scope part of the purchasing decision.
For a small HR team, that is a different proposition from adding another module. It purchases capacity for named tasks. The useful question is which responsibilities will move to the provider, which approvals remain with the employer, and how the two sides will communicate. Delegation becomes valuable when the boundary is clear.
Benefits brokerage addresses another set of decisions: choosing coverage, explaining options, managing enrollment, and supporting issues throughout the year. Inova describes a consultative process and data feeds between the benefits arrangement and the platform. Administration software keeps records; brokerage supplies expertise around the choices and the problems that follow them.
Customers span landscaping, restaurants, hospitality, healthcare, retail, nonprofits, and other U.S. employers. The appeal is particularly legible where a modest administrative team supports complicated operations. Public customer totals vary by context: UKG’s December 2025 announcement reported more than 4,000 businesses, while Inova’s pricing page states more than 5,500. Both describe a provider serving thousands.
The reseller becomes part of the platform
Inova’s expansion also has a financial history. In November 2017 it announced a recapitalization with Tritium Partners alongside a merger with Atlanta-based Payroll Strategies. The stated purpose included funding services and national expansion. A client notice records Integrated Payroll Services joining Inova effective December 31, 2021. Scale came through combinations as well as selling.
Joe Schweppe became CEO in July 2023, with Ferdowsi moving to Executive Chairman. The Inc. ranking history records eight appearances between 2016 and 2025, with gaps. Inova placed No. 2,603 in 2025. The distinction is worth keeping precise: eight appearances is an achievement without requiring the embellishment of eight consecutive years.
In December 2025, UKG announced an agreement to acquire Inova, which it described as its largest U.S. UKG Ready reseller. UKG identified outsourced HR support and full benefits brokerage as capabilities the deal would bring directly to its small and midsized business offering. The current Inova website presents the business as a UKG company.
That rationale is revealing. A software platform was buying expertise in delivering the work around its software. In March 2026, Inova reported Top 3 placements in several G2 small-business relationship, results, and implementation indexes. Those are particular review-based rankings, rather than proof that every employer will have the same experience.
A quote is a test of the workflow
Inova sells to employers through customized quotes. Its public pricing page asks for company details and employee count rather than offering a standard tariff. For a buyer, the comparison should include implementation, selected modules, connections, and support scope alongside ongoing fees. A lower recurring charge can coexist with a great deal of internal work.
The market offers alternatives such as ADP, Paychex, Paylocity, and Gusto. The meaningful comparison depends on the employer’s requirements. A straightforward payroll buyer may need less breadth. An employer already using a compatible operating platform may value the connection far more. These are buying judgments, not claims that a particular competitor lacks a feature.
What can another business copy from this story? Trace one new hire and one working hour through the existing tools. Count the repeated entries. Ask a prospective provider to demonstrate those exact handoffs and a correction. Agree who responds when something goes wrong. Connected software depends on sound mapping, clear ownership, and a service package suited to the work.
Grunder’s long relationship makes the lesson especially sharp. Switching has a cost in effort and attention; staying has one too. The next payroll demonstration becomes more useful when the employer arrives with a list of things its people should no longer have to do.
