Christian Ferreira did not arrive at artificial intelligence from a research lab. He arrived from the trenches of government contracting - the endless RFPs, the compliance matrices, the last-minute rewrites - and decided the work deserved a better system.

His career started far from software. Straight out of high school, Ferreira enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served as a sergeant and operations chief. He deployed across the Middle East, including a tour in Afghanistan, before he turned 21. That period, he says, still shapes how he runs a company. "The Marine Corps shaped the way I lead today by reinforcing the importance of clarity, urgency, accountability, and never asking your team to do anything you would not do yourself."

When his service ended, he built a second life around education and engineering. He earned an associate degree in computer science, a bachelor's in management, and a master's in innovation and entrepreneurship with an engineering concentration. Then he went to work in the industry that would eventually define his mission: government contracting.

Learning the problem from the inside

Ferreira spent close to a decade in the field, and he climbed through roles that gave him an unusually complete view of how contracts are actually won and delivered. He started as a full-stack software engineer building mission-critical systems for government agencies. He moved into a senior solutions architect role, where he researched, responded to, and secured high-value contracts. Later, as a director of business strategy - including a stint at the global identity firm IDEMIA - he led cross-functional teams to win work and defend incumbency.

That vantage point is the origin of everything that followed. He watched capable people burn out on process rather than strategy. "The idea came directly from watching talented business development, capture, and proposal teams fight to keep up with an endless stream of RFPs, compliance matrices, rewrites, and last-minute deadlines," he said.

"I did not enter AI from a research background. I entered it as a practitioner who lived the inefficiencies firsthand and recognized that the industry needed a better system."

The timing bet

Ferreira founded Procurement Sciences in 2022, and the timing was deliberate. He had seen the inefficiencies for years, but the tools to fix them at scale did not exist until generative AI matured. "When generative AI reached real maturity in late 2022, it was clear the timing was right to rethink the entire government contracting lifecycle," he said.

The result is what the company describes as an AI-native operating system for businesses that sell to the government - a single platform that unifies opportunity discovery, proposal automation, compliance management, and delivery execution. The pitch is not that machines replace people. It is that they remove the drudgery that keeps skilled teams from doing their best work.

"AI is not replacing people in government contracting. It is amplifying them. The companies that build AI into their workflows now will set the pace for the next decade."

The moment that stays with him

Ask Ferreira what he is proudest of, and he does not lead with funding rounds or logos. He talks about customers. "The moments that stay with me are when customers tell us our platform changed their business," he said. One story he returns to: a mid-size contractor had decided to abandon a competitive bid, then reversed course after using the platform - and won a $40 million contract within ten days.

Those individual wins add up. By the company's account, the platform enabled more than $4 billion in customer contract wins in 2024 and has grown to serve more than 300 organizations, including four of the top 10 U.S. defense contractors. Revenue has grown more than tenfold since the company's Series A.

The next chapter

In November 2025, Procurement Sciences closed a $30 million Series B led by Catalyst Investors, with participation from Battery Ventures, Tower Research Ventures, K-Street Capital, Blu Ventures, Bosch Ventures, and Citi. The round brought total funding to roughly $40 million and is earmarked for product expansion, strategic hiring, new office openings, and deeper commercialization.

For all the momentum, Ferreira keeps the mission narrow on purpose. "My job as CEO is to guide that product vision, build a high-performance team, and keep us focused on one mission: helping government contractors use AI to win more and deliver better." The long-term version is even simpler in his telling: "Help every contractor win more, deliver better, and grow faster with the help of AI."

It is a founder's thesis grounded in lived experience rather than theory - the kind of clarity that, fittingly, sounds a lot like the discipline he first learned in the Corps.

In His Own Words

I began my career straight out of high school in the U.S. Marine Corps, deploying across the Middle East, including Afghanistan, before I turned twenty-one.

Never ask your team to do anything you would not do yourself. That is what the Marine Corps taught me about leading.

The idea came from watching talented capture and proposal teams fight to keep up with an endless stream of RFPs and last-minute deadlines.

When generative AI reached real maturity in late 2022, it was clear the timing was right to rethink the entire government contracting lifecycle.

The moments that stay with me are when customers tell us our platform changed their business.

Our long-term goal is simple: help every contractor win more, deliver better, and grow faster with the help of AI.
