Ethermed is a Philadelphia-based health technology company that uses large language models and clinical reasoning to automate prior authorization - the paperwork-heavy approval process between healthcare providers and insurers. Its platform intercepts physician orders, gathers documentation, compares payer guidelines, fills forms and submits requests with an audit trail, cutting approval times from days to minutes. Founded in 2021 by Dan Friedman and Michal Such, the company raised an $8.5M Series A in April 2026, bringing total funding above $15M.
Arintra
Arintra is an Austin-based healthcare AI company building a GenAI-native autonomous medical coding platform that turns clinical documentation into accurate billing codes directly inside hospital EHR systems. Founded in 2020 by machine-learning PhDs Nitesh Shroff and Preeti Bhargava, the company combines autonomous coding, clinical documentation improvement, and payer-aware denial prevention into a single revenue-assurance platform. Arintra has processed over a billion dollars in healthcare charges and, at customers like Mercyhealth, reports a 5.1% revenue increase and a 43% reduction in denials. It raised a $21M Series A led by Peak XV Partners in August 2025.
David Sontag
David Sontag is the co-founder and CEO of Layer Health, a Boston-area startup building an AI layer that reads and abstracts messy medical charts at clinician-level accuracy. He is also a professor at MIT in EECS and IMES, a principal investigator at CSAIL, and a leader in machine learning for healthcare with more than 20,000 citations across roughly 140 publications. After a decade of academic research turning raw clinical data into predictions, he took partial leave in 2025 to scale Layer Health, which raised a $21M Series A led by Define Ventures.
