Outship
Outship is a San Francisco technical-screening startup from Y Combinator's Winter 2025 batch that evaluates software engineers by how they work with AI coding agents rather than by whiteboard puzzles. Candidates complete real coding tasks inside a cloud VM with a browser-based VS Code and agents like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, while Outship records every prompt, edit, command, and decision and scores the session against customizable rubrics. Founded by ex-Berkeley AI researchers Saner Cakir (CEO) and Kayla Lee (COO), the company argues that shipping code is now the baseline and that the real signal is how a person steers an agent, makes tradeoffs, and recovers when things break.
Sol Browser
Sol Browser is a San Francisco startup (Y Combinator Fall 2025) building a browser designed to work as a developer's IDE. It lets engineers run multiple AI coding agents - Claude Code, Codex, Cursor - in parallel from browser tabs, alongside terminals, diff viewers, running apps, docs and pull requests. The company began as Inspector, an AI IDE that connected the browser to the codebase so agents could see the same visuals, elements and logs a developer sees, then expanded that idea into a full browser workspace. Founded by Quentin Romero Lauro and Michael Klikushin, it operates as Sandbox Technologies, Inc.
Coder
Coder is an Austin-based software company that moves software development off individual laptops and into secure, self-hosted cloud development environments (CDEs). Its open-source and enterprise platform uses infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) to provision standardized, governed developer workspaces that run on Kubernetes or VMs across any cloud, on-prem, or air-gapped setup. Increasingly, Coder positions itself as the control plane for enterprise AI development, where human developers and AI coding agents work inside the same governed environment. It raised a $90M Series C led by KKR in April 2026.
Okteto
Okteto is a developer platform that moves Kubernetes development, preview, and testing environments into the cloud. Founded in 2018 by three former Atlassian, Docker, and Google engineers and backed by Y Combinator, Okteto lets developers spin up production-like environments with a single command, sync code changes live in seconds, and automatically create preview environments for every pull request. In 2025 the company extended the same infrastructure to AI coding agents, giving each agent its own isolated, production-like environment to build, test, and verify code at scale.
CoreStory
CoreStory is a San Francisco-area AI startup building a persistent 'spec layer' for software. Its Code-to-Spec platform ingests legacy codebases - the COBOL and decades-old systems running banks, airlines, Social Security and Medicare - and turns millions of lines of undocumented code into living, queryable specifications that both humans and AI coding agents can read. Founded by Anand Kulkarni, the company raised a $32M Series A in October 2025 to make the world's aging software understandable again, reporting up to 50% reductions in development time and a Microsoft-validated 51% accuracy boost for AI agents fed its specs.
