The Bot That Actually Shows Up for Work

UJET Virtual Agent is UJET's AI agent for self-service. It is in production today with real customers, not in preview. Turo runs it across its car-sharing marketplace, and it is answering customers right now.

UJET Virtual Agent, mid-conversation. It does not just answer - it verifies, applies the credit, and finishes the job.

Preview is a promise. Production is a proof. UJET Virtual Agent skipped the sandbox and went straight to the phone lines, the chat windows, and the mobile screens where real customers are asking for real help. It is UJET's Agentic AI for self-service, and the only claim that matters here is the plainest one: it is answering customers right now.

A lot of vendors are talking about AI agents. Roadmap slides, waitlists, coming-soon banners. Fewer have one handling actual customer conversations at volume. That is the distinction UJET cares about - live versus announced. UJET Virtual Agent is on the live side of that line, and it has the receipts.

It does things, not just says things

The word that separates a chatbot from an agent is a verb. A chatbot tells you where the credit policy lives. An agent applies the credit. UJET Virtual Agent connects directly to backend systems, which means it can complete the task in front of it - match a shade, verify an identity, gather a claim, apply a rebate - without kicking the customer over to a human to finish what it started.

  • Autonomous backend connections that resolve real-world tasks end to end
  • Omnichannel by default - phone, mobile, and web in one brain
  • More than 40 languages, with seamless switching mid-conversation
  • Sentiment detection that reads intent and emotional state before it acts
  • Seamless handoffs that carry full context, so nobody repeats themselves
  • Built for both sales and service, general and specialized agent types

There is a split personality worth naming, and it is a feature. General Virtual Agents take the broad, shallow requests - order status, store hours, what is in stock. Specialized Virtual Agents take the deep, multi-step work - a claim, an appointment, a return that has three conditions attached. A no-code interface lets teams tune both in real time, without waiting on an engineering ticket, and dynamic routing uses real-time and historical data to predict the best path between machine and human before the customer ever feels a seam.

The Turo proof point

Turo is the world's largest peer-to-peer car-sharing marketplace, and its community would rather solve its own problems than wait in a queue. So Turo put UJET Virtual Agent at the front door. It pre-verifies users, tells a guest from a host, gathers the details of an issue, asks for the photo or the video, routes the genuinely hard cases to a person, and circles back afterward to collect a satisfaction rating.

We want to provide more opportunities for the community to solve their own issues.Julie Weingardt, Chief Operations Officer, Turo

The strategic move is subtle. When the Virtual Agent absorbs the routine, the human role changes shape. As Weingardt puts it, "the job and role of the agent becomes to solve the issues that are more complex in nature." Automation takes the repetitive; people take the hard and the human. Nobody gets demoted to a switchboard.

The real question is trust

UJET is blunt about the thing most demos skip: choosing an AI type is a risk decision, not just a technology one. There is a meaningful gap between a model that talks and a model that acts. Get the first wrong and you have a bad answer. Get the second wrong and you have a bad action to undo.

A generative model that says the wrong thing? Bad answer. An agentic one that does the wrong thing - refunds the wrong customer, edits the wrong account - that's a bad action you now have to clean up.UJET, on the trust question

Which is why governance comes first, not last. UJET's framing is that "autonomy without governance is liability with a confident voice." Guardrails are decided before deployment, per customer flow, by asking who suffers if the AI fails, whether the right answer is fixed or context-dependent, and what flexibility is actually worth. That discipline is the reason an agentic system can be trusted with a live customer instead of a test transcript.

The decision framework is refreshingly concrete. For each flow, UJET asks three questions: who suffers if the AI fails - the customer, the brand, or a regulator? Is the correct answer fixed, or does it bend with context? And what is the honest cost-benefit of flexibility against rigidity? A password reset and a legal disclosure do not deserve the same amount of improvisation. Sorting conversations by risk is what lets the safe ones move fast and the sensitive ones stay tightly governed.

This is also why deployment starts with listening. UJET analyzes tens of thousands of real customer interactions - anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 - to find the topics worth automating and to build a prioritized list of Virtual Agents to stand up. The Virtual Agent is not guessing at what customers ask. It is trained on what they actually asked, then pointed at the highest-value, lowest-risk work first.

The outside read

Aberdeen Research summed up the position this way: "What UJET brings to market with Virtual Agent is modern technology plus operational expertise for maximum ROI." Technology that talks is common. Technology that acts, governed, in production, is the rarer thing - and it is the thing already running at Turo.

So the honest test for any AI agent is not how it sounds in a demo. It is whether it is answering a customer this afternoon, at volume, with the guardrails to make its actions safe. By that measure UJET Virtual Agent is not a preview of what customer self-service might become. It is what a slice of it already is - live, on the phone, in chat, on mobile, in more than 40 languages, doing the work.
