The women's fashion retailer that put a stylist in every dressing room - and a curated closet in the mail.
EVEREVE sells contemporary women's clothing. But what it really sells is the feeling of being edited - by someone who knows you.
In 2004, Megan Tamte stood in a department-store dressing room and cried. Nothing fit the woman she had become - juggling work, motherhood, and a wardrobe that no longer matched her life. Rather than file a complaint, she and her husband, Mike, opened a store designed for exactly that woman. They called it Hot Mama, and the first location sat at 50th and France in Edina, Minnesota.
Twenty years later, that single boutique has grown into EVEREVE - a coast-to-coast retailer of more than 100 stores, an e-commerce business, and a subscription styling service, serving over two million customers. The name changed in 2014, largely because "Hot Mama" kept getting mistaken for a maternity shop. The new name pointed at the customer it was built for: the woman who is ever-evolving.
The premise has stayed constant. Department stores offer near-infinite choice; EVEREVE offers an edit. It carries roughly 150 contemporary brands plus a growing private label, and staffs its floors with stylists who remember what you bought last season and what you're dressing for this one. In a market drowning in inventory, the scarce thing is not more clothes - it's someone to narrow them down.
That idea scales in three directions at once: physical stores with a boutique feel, an online shop, and Trendsend, a mail-order styling service. Each one is a different delivery mechanism for the same product - curation and a human point of view.

New job, new city, new body, new decade. EVEREVE's customer is usually navigating a change - and a closet that no longer fits it.
Women roughly 35 and up who want contemporary, versatile style with the right amount of edge - and guidance instead of a wall of options.
Too much choice, too little help. Big-box and department stores overwhelm; algorithmic boxes miss the human context of a life in flux.
A tight, curated edit plus real stylists - in store, online, or by mail - who translate a customer's life and body into outfits she'll actually wear.
100+ boutiques offering a curated mix of contemporary brands, with in-store stylists and family-friendly, redesigned spaces.
A subscription styling service: human stylists mail 2-3 complete outfits (7-9 pieces) based on a detailed style quiz. Keep what you love, send back the rest.
An in-house brand, including private-label denim, that grew to roughly 20% of sales while sitting alongside 150+ partner brands.
A Shopify-powered online store plus shoppable, video-based styling content for at-home inspiration.
EVEREVE doesn't try to out-price the giants or out-scale Amazon. It competes on knowing you - and on where its revenue actually comes from.
Against department stores, EVEREVE wins on edit and service: fewer racks, a stylist who remembers you. Against algorithm-driven boxes like Stitch Fix, it leans on human stylists - about 90% of Trendsend boxes are curated by people inside actual stores, not a warehouse. And against pure e-commerce, its physical footprint gives customers a place to be seen and fitted.
Private label is the quiet engine. Growing an in-house line to roughly a fifth of sales improves margin without asking the brand to abandon the curated multi-brand identity that earns customer trust in the first place.

How it makes money. Full-price and seasonal sales of curated third-party and private-label women's apparel and accessories, across stores and online, plus recurring revenue from the Trendsend subscription. Stylists lift average order value and repeat purchase; private label lifts margin.
Where it's deep. Merchandising and taste - the ability to spot and assemble a coherent seasonal edit - is the core competency, paired with an operating culture built on the HEART values. That combination is hard for a spreadsheet-first competitor to copy.
Technology as an enabler. A 2024 replatforming onto Shopify unified point-of-sale and e-commerce, letting in-store stylists see a customer's full history and pushing Shop Pay to about 65% of revenue. The company launched 103 stores and 275 POS stations in eight months.
Where it fits. EVEREVE sits in the contemporary specialty-apparel tier - above fast fashion, below luxury - competing with Anthropologie, Nordstrom, Madewell, and styling services like Stitch Fix and Trunk Club, but distinguished by the boutique-plus-stylist model.
