# Sequoia and Zenefits

> Sequoia and Zenefits attacked the same stubborn problem from different directions: helping employers manage people, pay and benefits without drowning in administration. Sequoia, founded by Greg and Kelly Golub in 2001, remains an independently operated total-compensation and benefits company combining advisory work with Sequoia OS. Zenefits, founded in 2013, grew at startup speed, suffered serious insurance-compliance failures, rebuilt, and was acquired by TriNet in February 2022. Its software remains in use as TriNet HR Platform and HR Plus, but Zenefits no longer operates as an independent brand. Their divergent paths show that in regulated software, distribution, service and compliance are part of the product.

## Achievements

- Sequoia says it serves more than 2,500 clients across 140 countries.
- Sequoia has expanded from benefits brokerage into PEO, compensation, equity and people-spend software.
- Zenefits helped establish the all-in-one cloud HR platform as a category for small and midsize businesses.
- TriNet said the Zenefits acquisition expanded its reach to roughly 23,000 small and midsize businesses and more than 600,000 workers at closing.

## Latest updates

- **2026-03** — Sequoia announced a collaborative workspace for people-spend decisions.
- **2026-08** — TriNet support pages describe HR Platform and HR Plus as previously TriNet Zenefits; legacy Zenefits login and help infrastructure remains active.
