# Windward Studios

> Windward Studios started as a game developer, pivoted to enterprise reporting, and built a document-generation system around familiar Microsoft Office templates and embedded engines. Acquired by PDFTron in 2021 and now represented by Fluent within Apryse, its story offers a useful map of the customer-communication stack: Windward/Fluent composes data-driven documents, Messagepoint governs complex communication content, Hyland manages documents and workflows, and Sinch delivers messages through communications networks and APIs.

## Achievements

- Built document-generation tools that let users design data-powered templates in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Supported more than 2,000 organizations and generated more than 10 million documents per month at the time of the 2021 acquisition announcement.
- Served customers in more than 70 countries at the time of acquisition.

- **2023-02** — PDFTron adopted the Apryse name and listed Fluent among its expanded document-processing portfolio.
- **2026-08** — As of this research review, Apryse documentation describes Fluent Engines as formerly Windward and offers RESTful, embedded .NET and embedded Java choices.
