# FYI Docs PostgreSQL performance turnaround

> FYI co-founder and CTO Alan McLeod and Pythian lead database consultant Matt Pearson explain how rapid growth exposed serious PostgreSQL bottlenecks in FYI’s AWS Aurora environment. A single central table had grown to more than 70 percent of the database instance, slowing queries and preventing autovacuum from keeping up. After a health check, Pythian and FYI devised and tested a hash-partitioning strategy using roughly 100 buckets, improving query behavior, allowing maintenance work to run in parallel and restoring confidence that the Adelaide software company could keep expanding without sacrificing reliability.
