# NodeBB

> NodeBB is an open-source, Node.js-based forum platform built in Toronto in 2014 by Julian Lam and two co-founders. As competitors like AnswerHub, ToucanTech, Gravyty and Patreon consolidated communities into proprietary, walled products, NodeBB shipped native ActivityPub support in version 4, joining the fediverse and letting forums federate with the wider open social web.
