# IBM’s AI workforce study and the judgment gap

> IBM’s September 21, 2026 global study of 1,500 CHROs and 8,800 employees reveals a workplace design crisis hiding beneath the AI adoption boom: 60% of employees fear their skills are eroding, leaders prize the ability to supervise and override AI far more than workers do, and employees can be blamed for failures even when they do not feel safe challenging the machine. The research also points to a practical remedy—explicitly classifying work as human-led, AI-assisted or AI-executed—and IBM’s own Client Zero program offers a company-reported example of large-scale experimentation, employee participation and executive sponsorship.
