# WeForest

> WeForest is a Brussels-headquartered nonprofit founded in 2009 by Bill Liao and Marie-Noelle Keijzer to restore tropical forest landscapes as a climate solution. Over 15 years it has grown more than 118 million trees, put over 100,000 hectares under restoration and engaged some 45,000 households across programs in East Africa, Southern Africa, West Africa and South America. The organization's distinguishing bet is that lasting forests require people: it pairs ecological methods like assisted natural regeneration and agroforestry with women-led micro-enterprises, GPS-mapped monitoring and long-term community stewardship rather than one-off tree-planting.
