> For years, the most consequential difference between Semrush and Ahrefs for a growing agency was not a backlink index or a keyword chart. Semrush's Agency Growth Kit added a client-facing operating layer with portals, CRM, lead generation, white-label reporting and collaboration, reducing the friction of managing many accounts under one roof. But Semrush has since discontinued the bundle, sunset the Client Portal and CRM, and separated reporting and agency discovery into paid products. Ahrefs, meanwhile, offers larger project limits, team seats, portfolios, report building and an agency directory, though its public product still does not present a comparable native CRM-and-client-portal layer. The durable lesson is to buy around workflow cost, not an inherited product reputation.
